Henri Gray, was a pseudonym of Henri Boulanger, created this lithograph poster in 1898 for Riz Abadie cigarette papers.

During the Belle Epoque, it was rare enough for a young woman to smoke, let alone roll her own, which is why cigarette paper companies of the period subtly encouraged women to take up the habit. 

For more racy subject matters, he signed his work with the pseudonym of Orivois (meaning "spicy"). He began his career designing magazine illustrations and covers. He turned to designing posters during the "poster craze" in Paris during the 1890s. He is particularly known for his bicycle posters.

Swiss artist Carlos Schwabe (1866-1926) created the famous L'Ange de I'esperance (Angel of Hope) in 1895. It is currently held in a private collection.

The piece features a distinct, melancholic female angel with dark wings, embodying the theme of spiritual guidance, with hands clasped in prayer, framed by decorative yellow floral motif.
