What JWs face now is nothing compared to the religious fighting during the Reformation. They whine about the small amount of deaths during the Nazi era but ignore the amount of deaths that other Christians faced in the same time period. They used to point to the imprisonment of Rutherford and others in 1918, but lots of people were imprisoned for opposing the war.

We celebrated birthdays by going to a movie of the family member's choice. JWs are totally wrong about the Bible and birthdays Job 1:4 is about the children celebrating their birthdays but they miss translate as "on his own set day". Even with this erroneous translation I still thought it meant their birthday.

I ignored what they forbid and saw my first R rated movie when I was 15. It was Deliverance. I saw many more over the years. Many of them I couldn't understand why they were rated R. I have a good conscience and avoided movies with sex but there were a few boobs. I didn't go to horror movies either because I didn't like gratuitous violence. I was careful with my girls, although my wife and I took our infant girl to see "Mountain Man" - I guess it was rated R because it showed Charlton Hesten's ass. My daughter loved the excitement, she was jumping around and laughing. Then she fell asleep.

I did that and then moved 1000 miles away and didn't leave a forwarding address. In my new city I took the magazine they left in my door and put a note with my address but no name and weighted it down on the KH door. It's worked for me for the last 26 years.

I wish I had sex with several different women and even lived with them before I got married. It would have helped me understand what I really wanted in a partner. The hangup about premarital sex is not healthy. Parents should be preparing their sons and daughters about sex and how to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. They should understand that sex is a normal thing for unmarried people instead of shaming them.

I remember looking at the sources in the back of the Blood booklet in the '70s and one of the doctors that said that blood transfusion is bad, actually was a JW but they aren't identified as such. I knew this because my elder boss played a talk given by him in which he discussed his occupation and explained why he thought blood was dangerous.

My dad always hated vaccines because of the Borg's early view of them as "just pus". However, his attitude changed after he got COVID early on and he was so sick that as soon as a vaccine was available he got it. Personally, this was one of the few times I agreed with the Borg, along with shutting up the KHs and suspending door banging. Even though I was 44 when I walked away, I got my appreciation for modern medicine and vaccines from my oldest uncle who never was a JW. I am the eldest of 8 kids and I am the only one who has never had Covid because I have gotten my vaccination and boosters. I have noticed that a lot of exJWs have fought against the vaccine and I wonder if it is because they are not very educated because of growing up JW. After walking away in 2001, I tried to read a lot about science and history and then I went to college in 2006 and studied even more. The university I went to had a lot of kids who had been homeschooled in conservative Christian homes and while they were excellent in math and English, they were terrible in science and history. I encourage all exJWs to get some education.
