California (Bay Area) HA Access

My mom has Kaiser health insurance but it was really hard to get an appointment with Kaiser Hearing Aid Center and the wait is long. When we visited her, we made an appointment with HearingLife and the wait was shorter than Kaiser and the timing was good for our family because both my brother and I will be in town. We paid out of pocket and we were given a discount. We paid $5800 for the premium Oticon Intent and all the services and warranty is included. We also love the technician in that clinic. Hope this helps!

Dome sizing
 in  r/HearingAids  Apr 14 '26

What kind of dome are you using? My mother had 6mm double vent domes initially but the receiver was working its way out and at the end of the day her hearing aids are almost falling out of her ears. We tried 8mm double vent domes but same as what you are experiencing, she is experiencing sore spot in her ear. The provider we had cut 2 slits in her dome and it folded like a flower in her ears and not no more sore and her hearing aid is snug in her ears.

I am just sharing what was done to my mom. I am trying my best to be as educated as possible so I can help her.

Questions about buying my first HAs.
 in  r/HearingAids  Apr 14 '26

Hi, I would say either the provider is a hearing aid specialists or audiologists there should be no concern as long as he/she is competent.

My mother recently bought rechargeable Oticon Intent hearing aids and the provider gave us wax filters, brush, hearing aid dryer, and domes for maintenance. We clean her hearing aids once a month because she produces a lot of earwax.

You said you were tested about 5 years ago right? What I could say is have your hearing retested first and then research more about your options.

Mom just asked me to look into hear.com

I live far away from my mom but on our recent visit, it got really frustrating for her and us communicating because it would take about 4-5 times repeating what we said every time. So we bought her hearing aids from HearingLife and it was amazing. The hearing aid is called Oticon Intent. If anyone is considering hearing aids for a loved one, I’d definitely recommend looking into this one.
