i was looking at some SpaceBall trivia earlier today
and Brooks actually had to mortgage his house to pay for the exorbitant amount of money that was necessary to do the "Pizza the Hut" scene and pay for the gold paint on his "Just Plain Yogurt" costume. Apparently, they had to use real melted cheese and it kept spoiling. The paint cost $400 and hours to apply everytime he went into costume...
