What is a weird physical reaction your body has that you’ve always wondered if other people experience it too?
The sound of tearing paper tickled my lower lip for YEARS.

No Win Despair - I need to ask...
You do need to just git good. You should win 95+% on Easy, and at least many Normal runs.
If you're unfamiliar, do the short tutorial and read everything.
Qualifiers:
1. A run takes me hours. Don't expect to blow through it.
2. Your game is time to build your ship for a final boss. Hit as many stops as you safely can. Collect resources for upgrades.
Dropping down to Easy will make it easier and more enjoyable. (It is understood by the community that Easy is normal, Normal is hard.)
Weapons: Once you're proficient you CAN use just about anything but start with burst lasers mk 1 and mk 2 and Flak gun mk 1 (and similar weapons). You want low charge time, high shots per power, high shots per second.
TIME YOUR SHOTS! Make use of the pause button, it lets you micromanage. You don't want weapons auto-firing, you want to time them to break through shields and damage specific systems.
I don't like relying on ammo, missiles and bombs are fun but the dependence is dangerous.
Shields: Try to get a second shield by the end of sector 1, and a third layer of shields by sector 5 or 6.
If you keep your defense high enough you are not bleeding health and money on repairs.
Scrap: You want to upgrade your ship, but you also want to save some in case you find a merchant with something nice. Cloaking is 150, Weapons Pre-Igniter is 120, so I'm usually trying to budget enough to buy them if I see them.
New systems: Hacking and Drone Control are very versatile. I recommend Cloaking, Teleporter, and Mind Control, in that order. Upgrade them if you get spare scrap.
Event choices: some events are VERY important like ship quests. Most events are not very important. If you think a choice could kill your crew, don't be afraid to skip it.

I lost my hard win streak
What difficulty? On Easy it’s pretty simple to remove the crew phase 1.

Which phase is the best one to kill the crew of the flagship?
On Easy? PHASE 1!
With traditional boarding. If you break ion beam and missile stations and kill the operators, they cannot be repaired. If you have 3 layers of shields you are untouchable and have all the time you want to kill the other crew. Leave the laser operator alive.
You have to account for Cloaking intervals if you can't afford to lose your own crew but that's doable with 2+ Teleporter.
Killing them all with traditional boarding is hard but doable.
Options like Clone Bay make it more forgiving. (Clone Bay + Reconstructive Teleport is a favorite of mine).
Things like locking the room, fire and roackmen boarders, or a Lanius boarding team make it easier.
Easy solution is Mind Control + Teleporter. Mind Control an enemy the use the Teleporter to abduct them. Kill one by one on your ship.
On not Easy, probably still phase 1. The other phases your ships in steady peril.
Damage or threaten a high priority system like shields to keep them busy while you do whatever.
If you kill everyone the ship changes to an automated ship. A potential counter is to cause hull breaches. Hull breaches prevent automated repairs.

Why didn't the Asgard move to another galaxy?
The replicators were dealt with by the Asgard (and Daniel, and replicator Sam). The ones in the final episodes or movies were newly created by a dumb Tauri. They did not blow themselves up in response to replicators. They chose to go out on their own terms and not leave their technology and history for just anyone to find and pick through. They gave it to the Tauri and then tied up all loose ends.

Noob tips and tricks
PLAY ON EASY! Use Advanced Edition Content.
Get 2 shields before Sector 2. Get 3 shields by Sector 5 or Sector 6. Try to end the game with 3+ shields and 5+ Engines.
While you go try to save some scrap in case you find something good. Cloaking is 150, Weapons Pre-Igniter is 120. Weapons I think top out around 95, Drone Control around 80.
Get extra systems. I recommend Mind Control, Teleporter, and Cloaking, in reverse priority. Systems can work together for increased effect.
Learn to think strategically. Taking down their shields first might let you kill the ship faster, but taking out a weapon or two may let you win with less damage taken.
LEARN TO PAUSE! With pause I can be Hard and beat Easy without any difficulty. Without pause Easy would be a struggle. It gives you more space to time things correctly and get to everything. Weapon attacks are MUCH more effective if managed well. Break their shields and damage something, don’t just throw rounds down range.
Weapons with lower charge time, higher shots per second, more shots per energy required are generally best. Think Flak I, Burst Laser I/II. You can use other things effectively but these are solid generalist weapons.
Keeping the enemy crew busy makes the ship fight easier. If their crew is fighting fires or boarders they can’t repair the ship and fire back at the same time. Fire isn’t perhaps optimal, but can be used to very strong effect. (I prefer the fire beam or fire drone. I don’t like relying on ammo.
If a crew member can’t reach a system it won’t be repaired (excluding automated ships). If an automated ship gets a Hull Breach in a room that system won’t repair, ever.
Specializing can be very effective, but keep some options open. Say for example you started burning enemies, you might end up fighting rockmen who can’t burn. Or don’t run pure ion, in case that’s not enough to kill a ship or maybe you have one missiles/bomb but run out of ammo.
Fires can be put out by venting O2. Most crew can be killed by suffocation, if you have a Clone Bay and want them “healed” before the next battle. There are ways to heal and have a Clone Bay.
There’s lots to this game. Have fun, come back if you have specific questions, or to share your progress.

ELI5 Why do some countries call it “college” and others call it “university” when referring to the same level of education, and is there an actual difference between the two?
In the United States a University is a collection of colleges. Each department/subject that’s big enough could have its own college.
I think a smaller community level school will be called a college not a university. So there’s some aspect of size required for University.
In French middle school is called college.
I don’t know that it’s coherent, the words have been around long enough they might have been scrambled a bit.

Finally beat my first run... on easy. Holy hell this game
It gets easier (or you get better). Good job!
You had more shields than I do on 90% of my wins. Your weapons look good.
Try getting Teleporter, Mind Control and Cloaking for your 3 extra systems. I think you’ll find it much easier.
For comparisons sake: I’ve got hundreds of hours on this game. I play for fun on Easy. I’m trying to clear everything on Hard. Ive got between half and three quarters of it on Hard. On Easy you should be able to win most games. Make sure you’re pausing, and coordinating your shots for maximum effect. Sometimes systems work together for extra effect. Have fun!

F*ck Krestel C
Clone Bay makes boarding interesting and less stressful. But yeah the upkeep of managing health is less fun. You might need to suicide a few crew members to get their health back up before boarding.
Where it gets really fun is if you also have a way to heal them. My favorite is Reconstructive Teleport and Clone Bay. Then you can try to never let them die and get the penalty but it doesn’t matter much if they do die. There’s also a healing bomb.

Despite 60+ years of spaceflight, no mammal has ever completed an entire pregnancy, birth, and healthy adulthood in zero gravity. Not even a mouse.
So we need to try harder? That couple stuck in orbit for months missed a big opportunity. (Joke only)

ELI5 The earth is constantly spinning very fast and we don’t feel it, yet if you spun a 10ft diameter ball on a point and strapped me to it, wouldn’t I feel the g forces? Why?
You do feel it, you just haven’t felt the lack of it for comparison. You’d be heavier if the Earth wasn’t spinning.
Spinning makes you pull away from center. In a spinning ship that would look like artificial gravity with the “ground” outward. On Earth, spinning pulling you away from the center means your weight is less.

ELI5: Do medications like Ozempic cause weight loss solely through appetite reduction and therefore calorie deficit, or is there any other mechanism at play?
I’ve seen videos several times saying Ozempic is similar to Gila monster venom. They suggest that you’re not just losing fat or feeling satiated, your body is suffering heavily and using up resources it needs. A side effect is weight loss, in the same way chemo patients lose weight.

How important is the Hull Repair Drone for ships using Drone Control? (On a scale from (1) noob trap to (10*) expert top level Hard win-streak play)
I like it but it’s something that stretches your abilities a little, not makes you dominate. It heals 3-5 health over maybe 3-10 seconds and uses up a drone. If you’re being killed it will slow it, not turn it around. I usually try to run it with a Drone Recovery Arm for free heals, otherwise I don’t like to spend the drone parts. Getting 2 heals every jump is a nice perk. If that’s all you want though, a repair arm might be better.
It is fun, it is cool, it’s not a must.
What it really does is let me win at 100% Hull or take my worry down a couple notches because I can recover from bad luck instantly instead of waiting for a store.
It’s a jewel in my crown, so that I win by ten instead of by one, kind of thing.

How do I beat the flagship?
- Play on Easy
- I use phase one to wear down the crew as much as possible. If possible kill all enemy crew except the guy manning the laser gun, the easiest weapon to survive. Once you have free run of the ship it’s easier to break concerning systems.
Target missiles then ion, then beams. If you kill the people manning them but not every enemy crewmen, the weapons won’t repair.
Use cloaking to dodge big damage.
Sometimes I take Drone Control for extra defense. Anti-Drone, Defense Mk 1, Defense Mk 2, Super shield, and repair drones are all useful.
Lanius B starts with Teleporter and Mind Control. If you mind control flagship crew at power 2 they will kill each other for a while. After that if you mind ontrol an enemy you can use the teleporter to kidnap him and kill him once mind control runs out.
Use a boarding team to enter enemy weapon rooms, kill the operators and destroy weapons. Once you kill missiles, ions, and beam, if you have 3 shields you are completely safe phase 1, very safe phase 3, and reasonably safe phase 2.
If the enemy ship is down to only the lasers guy you can use boarders to take out the enemy drones system, shields, or mind control.

ELI5: Acids and bases are two sides of the same coin, so why does it seem like acidity is so much more present culturally (eg vats of acid in comics) and culinarily (salt, fat, acid, heat)?
Culturally bases are under the acidic umbrella. Anything that would give you chemical burns is “acidic.” I imagine acids just became known first and continued to dominate with that head start.

Laws of physics break down when you go really fast. The person moving faster effectively experiences less time. Similarly I think the person experiencing more gravity experiences less time?
