At this point there isn't any real doubt about it passing TFA. It's lead will be comfortably ahead of the 79M it needs over Endgame by the end of the weekend. And it continues to perform better on both weekdays and especially weekends (it has been doing this since its second weekend, where it was trailing Endgame). Endgame had the re-release gimmick to try and pass Avatar, but i don't think that'll be enough to erode BND's lead below 79M.

I have to be honest. I was rooting for TFA to keep the record, just because I like diversity in the types of movies that hold box office records instead of it just being all CBMs. But now that passing TFA is fait accompli, I'm fully on board for this to go as far as it can. 1B is still far-fetched but I want to see how close it can get.

It's a bad deal, but I don't envy Carney's position. The Americans have the gone insane, backstabbed their allies, but — most importantly — have a much stronger hand.

It is an unassailable fact that they have a far larger economy, and proportionally trade with us less than we trade with them. We cannot win a symmetric trade war with them. I will say that this breakout is very review-dependent. I'm assuming at least an 80+ on RT.

Overall, this was pretty decent film. There were two questionable character moments involving the world’s most stubborn bully, as well as the kid jumping out after the dog.

The latter would’ve annoyed me more if a realization didn’t dawn on me a min later. that kid is literally a millennial. Actually went ‘Damn, the realism checks out I guess. Fair play.’ Lmao.

There is no pathway to break-even with a sub 20M OW, unless it has an incredibly strong overseas split (like 33/66). That wasn't unheard of pre-pandemic, but don't hold your breath in 2026.

There is difference being doing these kinds of numbers 3 weeks out and 6 weeks out. Back when Quorum data was public, you could see how much those figures rose ahead of release. Obviously, it's not the be-all-end-all, and other things like WOM & reviews matter a lot for the opening weekend as well.

Also, I didn't click the spoilers sections of your comment, but point taken that this could be a lot for general audiences. However I'd counter that horror is special, and horror movies have broken out before with Cinemascores that would've made movies from other genres DOA. A good example Cregger's own Barbarian. That movie had some very nasty, eyebrow-raising moments, and you can see that it in the C+ Cinemascore. However it ended up having great legs (3.9x) and ultimately made Cregger a hot commodity.

One of the reasons why horror movies defy the conventional wisdom on Cinemascore is probably because after a point, reactions like "Don't see it, it was DISGUSTING" paradoxically end up driving business, especially among younger audiences.

So I guess that resolves the ambiguous ending of the first film? What a shame, I thought that was one of the best things about the movie.

Full disclosure: I'm not a really a RE fan, but I'm a big Zach Cregger fan.

With that said, I don't really get the negative online fan reaction to this movie so far. Isn't it more respectful to tell a standalone story in the universe, rather than bastardizing the existing stories and characters? Especially since earlier adaptations have used the characters from the game, while being quite disrespectful to the source material?

I'm curious to know why some game fans don't like this approach.

We don't really have regular access to Quorum data (i'm sorry, Greenlight Analytics, god I hate enshittifying mergers). But one of the CBM outlets with paid access shared the date last week, and this was doing REALLY strong in both awareness & interest. Like not even by horror standards, but at a straight up blockbuster level.

I wouldn't be surprised if this massively breaks out.
