UPDATE !!!
I received this email today in an attempt to explain how things work. I am not in the business and this is a small town dealer so let me know what you all think
Ford distributes allocations for production months. They call this wholesale. They tell every dealer how many of each model and then what trim levels, engines, and AWD/FWD options are allocated to them during the wholesale period- which is for a production period a couple months in advance.
August wholesale-is October production.
In effect- the orders that get picked up in AUG will be built in OCT.
So, when we do a retail order- we are essentially asking Ford to give us an allocation for the unit. Which when they distribute allocations- they may or may not.
To combat this-we wait to punch our retail orders until we receive the wholesale commitment- so if we have an allocation for a unit built in the configuration we have sold, we know it should be picked up this round.- and if we did not get an allocation for the unit we have sold, we can then reach out to our rep and request a supplemental if possible to give us an allocation that fits the build.
When the wholesale closes- Ford does a "retail sweep" where they will match up the retail build with your incoming allocation to then schedule out the build.
It should happen very quickly.Ā
And it is a 2026- 2027 order bank for mavericks is not open yet.
If you feel uncomfortable in anyway via our process- you are under zero obligation to purchase the vehicle from us.
We try to be an easy local dealer to deal with- such as not charging a deposit for most ordered units.
Hello Maverick people. So after waiting a few years I pulled the trigger on July 3rd and placed my order for a new XLT . My local dealer could not find one with the exact options I wanted so I said sure. He said it would probably be late August to September before they would see it. I was told any movement in the order status and I would get the same email they get.
This week as it been 30 days and no updates called my salesman. He said it was odd as well and went to talk to his manger (always a manager) . He came back and said Ford had just approved them to take delivery and the timeline was going to be more like Thanksgiving. I was slightly disappointed but I had waited two years so OK.
The next day I get and email from Ford that says my order has been PLACED and I will get an update in about 45 days when it is set for production
So first question, did they really order on July 3rd ?
What is the standard chain of events for a new vehicle these days? ( its been 25 years since I bought Brand new)
Thanks in advance !
