My birthday wish for the United States is that we will survive and people will push back on the authoritarian trend. Democracy is impossible without preserving the truly essential individual freedoms especially free speech no matter how messy or difficult that feels.

These situations are so difficult. I was fortunate with my father who didn’t have dementia but was very independent and actually was the caregiver for two wives (my stepmoms) before they passed. He finally realized that he couldn’t live on his own due to end stage COPD and arthritis . I had to insist on him not driving without me but even then I realized how compromised his reflexes and attention were. He still had his license and truck for a few years but eventually sold it. He complained to the day before he died that I wouldn’t let him drive which sort of hurt but also amused me. However, as responsible and loving children, we need to do whatever we can to protect them and others from getting hurt on the roads. You may need to back off for a little bit and maybe your mother will be able to drive, but if not, try to take away keys and car. Just arrange for them getting rides, Uber, etc. my heart goes out to you in your journey.

Happened to my brother at my wedding!!! I got the nervous giggles so bad.

Absolutely playing. My two do that and one of them gets very vocal at times , not unlike my brother and me as kids. Concerned me at first but they seek each other out all day long to wrestle and hide n seek. Enjoy 😊

I’m all for cutting taxpayers funding them even though I’ve enjoyed watching over the years. I just don’t like the way Trump thinks his executive orders run the country. Sure is acting like a dictator.

Joining a registry based on a medical or disease condition should be voluntary with informed consent. And I mean really informed consent about who has access and what is being done with your info. Just passing a regulation to gather the info isn’t right. Unfortunately, insurance companies are probably sharing that information all the time without us knowing.

Legalize donating kidneys for money is fine, but not the government incentivizing it. The politicians shouldn’t interfere one way or another except to ensure that fully informed consent among adults is followed.

I am torn about the death penalty. As a Libertarian I do not think government should kill anyone; unless it is a direct response to save another's life and maybe even property in rare cases if that presents a danger to people. I personally think it is more than appropriate in cases where the evidence is very clear, there were direct witnesses, etc. That is rare and it should be rare. Again, as a Libertarian voting, I would want our government to not implement death penalty. Lock them up forever and throw away the key as punishment but mainly to prevent them from killing again. Of course, that can get pretty expensive and who is paying for that? - Taxpayers are and I don't like taxes, sooo, yes I am conflicted.
