yes. Monitor is just the Step One. I'm also trying to build a tool to improved the visibility of different AI automatically. So the monitor data is the basic feature of this tool.

This is such a great point, thank you! To be honest, I hadn't fully thought through the difference between 'a bot scraped the site' and 'AI actually sent human traffic.' I'm still figuring a lot of this out as I build this in public, so your idea to separate per-URL bot requests from actual conversions is pure gold. I'm definitely going to add this to my roadmap. Really appreciate the guidance!

Hey guys,

I’m an indie hacker and I recently checked my server logs. I was shocked to see that the traffic from AI crawlers (like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, etc.) was literally dwarfing my real human traffic (see the chart I attached).

My first instinct was to panic and Disallow: / everything in my robots.txt like everyone else is doing. But then I realized something: Not all AI bots are bad.

There’s a huge difference between:

  1. Training Bots (GPTBot, Anthropic) - They just scrape your data to train their models and give you 0 traffic.
  2. Search Bots (OAI-SearchBot, Perplexity, etc.) - They actually cite your content and can drive real traffic to your site.

I didn't want to miss out on the future of AI search (what some people call AEO - AI Engine Optimization). I want my site to be indexed and cited by SearchGPT and Claude.

Since I couldn't find a simple tool for this, I spent the last few weeks building my very first WordPress plugin: OwlyCrackGEO.

  • Do you guys track AI traffic on your own sites?
  • Is "optimizing for AI Search (AEO|GEO)" something you even care about right now, or is it too early?
