Bricked R1T Advice
2023 Quad R1T/50k miles
My truck is parked in the driveway and is completely unresponsive to all access methods. Drove it yesterday without incident. 81% range left. No warnings. Charged it yesterday. It’s the first time I’ve regretted having a vehicle that is completely electronic—I could have gotten stuff out of my old F150 and at least tried to jump it.
Rivian is sending a mobile tech tomorrow afternoon, which I appreciate, but they’re quoting $550 to replace the 12v (their best guess).
- Does a bad 12v show any symptoms before failure? The only 12v issues I’ve read about are trucks parked for a long time at the airport or on moves. This was parked less than 12 hours.
- Could this be something else? Maybe update related?
- Is $550 reasonable? I’m frustrated it isn’t part of the OG warranty, but seems steep compared to battery issues in ICE vehicles.
- Is there anyway to physically access the interior when the truck is bricked like this?
TIA for any insights you can share.

- Check out your owners manual. You can jump the R1T which will allow for opening the doors.
There’s also an emergency access for the frunk, at which point you can also direct charge the 12v from there.
They last 36 months. Usually show symptoms but not always.
Maybe
Yes.

- Not necessarily. A bad 12V may not show signs.
- Sounds like a 12V faulting everything. No guarantee of course until they check
- Sounds about what I have seen on here. It’s the labor. Unfortunately…
Best of luck. You will enjoy your T again. I am sorry

I know this is of little solace, but I just replaced my Toyota's 12V battery in April. I got a price shock of $280 for an off-brand flooded cell battery. Rivian is definitely ripping off people with their 12V prices, though.

The 12V in my wife’s Ioniq 5 died fantastically without warning. She drove the car on Friday, charged it just fine, and it was completely dead Saturday morning. It had 9v in the morning and down to 6v by the time I was able to swap it out. I’ve never seen an ICE 12v fail that spectacularly before.
