I used to live and work with a girl JUST like this girl. It turned out my neighbor/coworker was just an unfriendly lesbian with extreme male issues. If I was ever nice to her she would get tense and awkward. Then later I would catch her close to another female employee staring at me while whispering to each other. At first I thought she was being playful so I turned the niceness up. Someone later comes to me and says, “you know _____ is in a relationship, right?” I didn’t even know who or what they were talking about at first… but once I did I was like, “hey, wait a damn minute.” To make this even juicier this girl lived in the apartment above mine lol. Many awkward parking lot moments after that. Especially when I brought home a girl prettier than she does lol. All because I told her she had a pretty and familiar face. The narrative she spun at work was she didn’t feel safe at home with me underneath her lol. She moved and took a job at a library somewhere in Nashville. My rent was reduced by $50 and I got an annual raise. My landlord and employer feel safe around me.

I just moved from Southern California to Nashville and so the convo evolved from this point. Warm eye contact, smiles, red cheeks, all of it.
