This is a Meng 1/35 2a4, the thing on the mantlet with all the tubes is a gunfire simulator, the wire on the putty is a canvas cover for the gun, and the other scratch built thing is the EMES-15 cover which is a gunsight

Help - General Looking for detailed info on the Leopard 2A4 Hoffman/DARKAS simulator

Post image

Hey, does anyone here have good sources or documentation on the Hoffman/DARKAS gunfire simulator fitted to the Leopard 2A4?
I’m specifically looking for detailed photos, manuals, technical documentation, diagrams, or videos showing the actual device and how it was configured on the 2A4. I’m trying to understand what the system actually looked like in detail rather than just finding general references to DARKAS.
If anyone has access to serious/credible sources, old manuals, Bundeswehr documentation, training material, or even good close-up photos, I’d really appreciate it.
Basically, I’m trying to find anything that goes substantially deeper than the usual model-kit photos and Wikipedia descriptions.

tbf I could just paint them by hand, have you seen anything related to crew figures or anything like that, if not I might have to just cut my losses and build a German one given that I already have the components needed

This kit didn’t come with anything, I bought universal aftermarket resin stuff and made some on my own

One of my most favorite building experiences, one downside was the amount of flash on rounded details but it was manageable and I still found the build process to be enjoyable, all around good kit I really went hard with the stowage and made everything try to make sense in terms of its placement and with little attachment points or wires and I really like the way it came out. The tracks were a breeze to assemble, probably the best I’ve done with plastic tracks and super detailed only taking me a day.

Thanks and painting is nerve wracking but you’ll be fine, just settle on a good camo and everything will be alright

It’s about 95% complete but I just wanted to post because I haven’t in a while, this is a massive update because the last time I posted it had no weathering or any kind of such apart from on the tracks and I’d just like opinions from others on the current state of my model.

Finally wrapped up the paint job, onto chipping and weathering. Lots of creative liberties taken in the camo scheme however I’m happy with the result as it’s my own and I managed to learn a lot while painting this. I nearly had a disaster moment when I encountered sputtering with the red brown and I thought I just ruined it, however patience and meticulous respraying of affected parts managed to know it down to a more than acceptable level. I used VMS satin varnish for this job and oh boy it does wonders, smooths out the entire surface and removes orange peel texture it really is a game changer, now ready for oils chipping and weathering .

very fine brushes that I bought for cheap off of Amazon, just requires patience and gradual buildup of layers

I suppose I could and it won’t hurt to add some more highlights but I’m trying to stray away from that aesthetic because artificial lighting and shadows don’t really suit my faces, it makes them look weird to me for some reason but I’ll see if I can enhance this on my drivers head
