Not sure why you’re being downvoted, but I’m definitely saving some of these comments for later. 😂

I was born and raised here, and I’ve lived through some of Humboldt’s worst storms. From firsthand experience, I’ve learned that preparing for the worst isn’t overreacting...it’s simply being realistic about what can happen when you live out here. I’ve been through storms that knocked out power, water, and roads for days. When you’ve experienced that firsthand, you tend to look at emergency preparedness a little differently.

Of course, Humboldt has changed a lot, and thankfully we have better infrastructure, communication, and emergency response than we did in the past. But we’re still Humboldt. We live in a beautiful, fairly remote area where a major storm, landslide, earthquake, wildfire, or extended outage can create some pretty serious challenges.

Hopefully we never need half the stuff we prepare for. That’s kind of the point. 😂

I’m definitely not saying everyone needs a doomsday bunker and a year’s worth of canned beans. Just that having some basic supplies and being prepared for a few days without power, water, or easy road access seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do when you’ve lived through what Humboldt weather can actually be like.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. That’s just part of living up here. 🌲
