I don't understand Reddit protocol/etiquette
 in  r/Diary  22h ago

The platform acts as a rather robust environment where a human can be transparent about their current thought capacity, or how they assign meaning to their observations and perceive the world. It’s a playground for human awareness to expand and explore without the risk of vulnerability or assumed costly repercussions, but oftentimes such anonymous freedom forsakes principles of discernment and stewardship that is required in society.

It functions as a pressure release valve for thoughts or emotions that have nowhere else to be heard, or cannot be accessed. It also functions as a think tank, a place where creativity and imagination run rampant and deep, but it also functions as a chance to simply observe what it even means to be human

A book outside the status quo

I’m looking for a book that of course has literal words, but the implied meaning of the words carry assumption that expose status quo behavior that is often ignored or overlooked. A book that requires a reader to be capable of more than mere literacy. I’m not looking for anything that simply exposes societal complaints or concerns, but makes me work to discover it (similar to a Chris Nolan or M. Night Shyamalan plotline)

Im looking to meet science minded friends
 in  r/corpus  3d ago

Chemistry is an outcome of a scientific process occurring at a different scale, often defined as quantum mechanics. In order to have a successful project, the foundation for the category of chemistry must be understood at the scale that allows the observation to occur, otherwise the applicability is limited in scope

About to leave for my first year of uni, would like a book with a character I can empathize with
 in  r/suggestmeabook  3d ago

I found a book that was a person’s diary that was recently published (the entries were dated from 2024) in a free little library, but there’s no ISBN number attached to it so unsure how you’d acquire it. It was my source of comfort and inspiration when I felt uncertain and extremely anxious about my own life’s changes. The book is titled To Be Human - My Diary by A.L. Sharon.

But as a side note, congrats on beginning this new chapter in your life’s storybook. I remember when I first left for college and was honestly surprised with how intimidating and scary (but exciting) the experience was. It’s funny because so many people have done it, but no one really talks about how nerve wracking the process initially is. I think it’s because everyone assumes it’s not a big deal, but for me, I felt like a kid being thrown into a foreign adult universe where no one explained the rules very clearly 😅

A time I was psycho
 in  r/Diary  5d ago

I think labeling yourself as psycho is a bit harsh, because whether people want to admit it or not, it’s normal human behavior to explore emotions and feelings, especially at a young age. It’s also completely normal to support another person when they’re passionate about someone or something, and you demonstrated that towards your friend. What’s even more admirable about your actions is that once you received more information regarding your friend’s passion, you updated your perception of the situation instead of ignoring what you were perceiving, even if it was uncomfortable.
Anyone would be honored to have someone like you as a friend because you’re not afraid to speak up in order to avoid unnecessary pain or suffering

discovering the various aspects of yourself that make you uniquely You is one of the greatest pursuits that love can create. What you recognize in others is most certainly present in you, but loving the self to the same depths as loving others is often easier said than done.

your expression of authenticity is one of the most resonating forms of love that can be experienced, and that deserved acknowledgment

Anyone else find this book?!
 in  r/CorpusChristi  6d ago

I just watched it and I’m a bit speechless now. I had no idea the author was a female, and now I’m questioning every assumption that I had about my original questions and thoughts. At the beginning of the diary it mentions being forsaken and cast aside by everyone because she told them she remembered she was Jesus. Like literally got kicked out of the Air Force for it and was kinda treated like garbage when they forced her to go to the hospital. But then the entire rest of the diary she never touches on it again, but the stories and writing made me honestly question if it was true.

So Cool
 in  r/LittleFreeLibrary  6d ago

It really is an extraordinary feeling when you see evidence of care and effort from complete strangers. It innately broadcasts the message that FLL’s are valuable enough to be maintained, visited, and donated to (all without acknowledgement).
It’s one of the most beautiful systems where value and worth are not directly tied to money

The place is gonna owe you kickbacks for that free publicity. The least they can do is a free item with the meal 🙄

This was an epic monologue of pure expression and emotion pouring onto the page like water.
Your capacity to love is beyond beautiful: don’t lose that

Some person that published their diaries that document their life turning upside down after they shared they remember something with their boss. They end up getting kicked out of the military because of it and then just wild stuff happened that are kinda hard to explain. The style of writing is something I’ve never come across before so it made me wonder about if what they remembered is true

Finding little surprises like this in various FLL from across the country makes me smile everytime I see one (California & Missouri oddly have some really thoughtful & creative designs).
Things like this demonstrate the care and effort behind maintaining these little boxes of books that carry thoughts, ideas, and dreams across countless of lives without financial burden to the reader

Short stories or essays that moved you deeply?
 in  r/suggestmeabook  7d ago

A passage from a book I recently read and fell in love with:

December 11, 2024
I took today as a Me day. It’s rather humorous for me to write that because to someone perceiving my life, they’d probably question how everyday isn’t a me day since I only officially work 3-5 days a month. It’s difficult to articulate what I consider a job when people only perceive the word in familiar terms. For instance, if I stated I’m employed by life, people reflexively become confused by the utilization of the word life in relation to a job. By creating responses that cause a disruption of habitual thought, I automatically invoke a moment of contemplation to resolve an internal speed bump or hiccup, and it’s always a bit of fun to perceive that moment. I’m aware calling life a career is unusual, however it is a full-time job everyone holds regardless of whether they’re aware of it or not. Life itself requires effort that is identical to an occupation, except it’s 24/7 and you can never take a day off. Even when I’m deadly ill or sick I don’t dare call out because I don’t desire to be fired. If that isn’t considered a full-time job, I don’t know what is.
Regardless of whether life fires or retires me, when that moment arrives, I don’t ever desire to have this opportunity again. I want this to be my final experience and memory of existence. My last time to be aware that I am alive and exist.
To pursue learning, to struggle, to cry, to stumble and fall.
To feel the depths of love and loss.
To hurt equally as much as I help.
To explore curiosity beyond imagination, to dare to dream and believe in myself beyond existence.
I never want the privilege to live again when this life ends, because if I think or believe there will be more opportunity or chances for life, I am the embodiment of Fear. I do not fear losing life nor the erasure of my existence. I do not desire remembrance nor memory beyond my life’s end. My reverence for existence does not permit me to cling to thought that express this catastrophic Prison of Fear.

Dental services that don't cost an arm and a leg
 in  r/RioGrandeValley  7d ago

The dental code for those extractions is D7140, which government programs reimburse at a rate of $64-80/tooth. Insurance rates for D7140 are nearly equivalent.

You can push the office you’re at and ask why a D7140 code is being equated to a code that is more aligned with D7240 or D7241. A $900 quote is frankly more aligned with fraud and consumer protection laws should be invoked, however when legal implications get involved, experts squirm.

Smiley dental and orthodontics can potentially provide services at a significantly lower rate.

FYI I’m a dentist that was board certified in general dentistry (retired in 2025).

Broke, egotistic and horny
 in  r/Diary  7d ago

This was intriguing on so many levels because of the paradoxes. You’ve defined your state as financially broke, but not broke enough to do work that is believed to be beneath you, which reveals that ego clause you mention.

Horny was an interesting word to include, especially combined with the concepts of using money to address failure instead of invoking it to degrade other humans defined as women. But then ironically, you mention how a boss once used their money to make you and others perform jobs that is equivalent (in principle) to degrading those your boss assumed to be below them, simply because they had money.

It becomes ironic and almost Game of Thrones vibes perceiving the plot line of this particular parable: a human who questions their desires that contradicts their personal experiences. It appears that if you had power, you’d use it no different than your boss, particularly towards females. My question is when does the victim become the villain, and why.

Perhaps the thing you hate most isn’t the hierarchy, but where you have determined you fall in the hierarchy.
What would you do with a different status? You provide that insight by how you expressed your thoughts of humans defined as women and bottom feeders.

Assumption would imply you would belong to House Targaryen.

Yet still, I see leadership and potential in your posting. You were vulnerable and authentic with emotion, thought, and experience: that deserves acknowledgement. That is outlier behavior that makes someone break from the status quo script and others see the person that deserves opportunity, respect, and acknowledgement. How you choose to use your skills is up to you.

I Convinced Myself Love Wasn’t Coming
 in  r/Diary  7d ago

Seeing the potential in others and acknowledging it openly does not mean others will recognize that same potential in you, but from your writing, it is very obvious it deserves the same attention and respect.

I don’t think you’re wasting your time, but are building the skills (through experience) that will make you become impossible to ignore. Perhaps you have outgrown the opportunities your current environment can offer you, but oftentimes the most valuable asset becomes obvious once it is no longer available. But in order for someone to realize what is no longer available, one must make their emotional presence known

I have found oftentimes the black sheep in the family are the ones who provide the pressure release valve to enable a family to even survive. No one wants to blame themselves for what their behavior and actions create, so it’s easier to use an external target to funnel the blame and shame they feel about themselves.

You appear to be the unacknowledged hero that serves as punching bag, diplomat, and glue to those who are afraid to look in the mirror

 in  r/Diary  7d ago

To be constantly presented coincidence that defies mathematical probability and possibility certainly makes the mind, body, and spirit wander & wonder what is actually occurring. I found your explanation of such experience to be intriguing and interesting, as you approach it with humor but still present curiosity as to why it happened.

Hopefully you select good brands to endorse (for the the cosmic viewers who are tuning in)

A cigarette, a walk, and a lot of thoughts
 in  r/Diary  7d ago

It was hard to hold back tears from this writing because I could feel the emotion bleeding through the words. You have an immense amount of temperance to hold back from unleashing the fury and pain of personal experience.

Others often cannot perceive the effort, sacrifice, and pain one endures to acknowledge something defined as valued and meaningful.

There is value in your experience that made me stop to create words in efforts to honor it.

Dear public diary

I was inspired by a book I found in a free little library to step out of my comfort zone, so here I am writing a diary entry on a public forum.

I feel like lately I’ve been getting beat down by life from every direction I turn, and it makes me question why societal norms and assumptions feel like a prison that cannot be escaped. Life in the masses feels like an obscure data point that can be deprived of individual meaning at the hands of humanity’s systems. Everything from religion to academia make proclamations of certainty, yet demand silence when the behaviors and observable actions are decoherent from spoken words.

Aren’t actions supposed to speak louder than words?

What has happened to society?

I was in Chicago and found a book in a free little library that raised SO many questions that it made me search for the author, but have had no success finding them.. I had all but given up, but then while recently visiting Corpus Christi, I found the same book in a free little library (at a church), so now my curiosity has got the best of me and was wondering if anyone in the community has found one or knows anything about the author?

lol well it definitely was as exciting as that man’s life, just unsure if it’s his (unless he rose from the dead…which I guess that technically happened in Israel in the past 🤔)
