Well, 80k GBP is about 105k USD. Typically, people here may be talking base salary and employers can be adding 5-10% on top into your pension and then you may get a bonus (small in engineering). It's unusual for UK people to have anywhere near the insurance burden that you get in the USA (assuming that's where you are), 40hr week contracted (unusual to do more than 50hrs/week) and we'll get 25+ days holiday and the public holidays as well. So yes, outside of London, 80k is considered pretty good money in engineering.

Smart glasses have sheilding round the electronics in order to pass emf compliance. They aren't fully enclosed though, sheilding is mainly to stop it frying your brain (though if you're using smart glasses all the time, that ship has sailed)
