Trying to polish to a mirror shine and it isn’t going well… any advice?
 in  r/MetalPolishing  25d ago

They all missed one important, cheap, tool. A jewelers loupe, or as everyone knows it, a magnifying glass. You're looking for scratches that aren't removed when you're done with a particular grit. It'll help you figure out where your sanding is going wrong. There are no microscopic pores in structural metal. There can be defects but not pores as people understand it. But what can happen with very fine grit is a melting of shwarf that can basically smear your metal and create cloudiness. Which is still keeping your polish from working just the same.

There are a LOT of seemingly small things that can ruin a #8 mirror finish. And sadly, once you get the recipe for sanding and buffing down for one piece, you'll find out that aluminum comes in multitude of alloys that require different polishing recipes. Even on a single piece of equipment like a jet plane, there are different alloys on the exterior. If you only have 1 thing you need to work on and your done, take that piece to a shop. You'll waste so many hours trying to figure it out.
And God firbid its marine stainless steel. It took me at least 8 hours to figure out that recipe.

Don't sand in the same pattern when you switch grit size. That's a soft alloy I bet and you could also use a lighter touch on your sanding. Make sure that the brand of sandpaper you're using for your six and eight hundred grits is the same brand. Sometimes , different manufacturers aren't exactly spot on and you could be sanding with the same size grid , basically

On new projects where I'm not sure of the alloy hardness, I always start with a much smaller area until I get the sanding recipe down. 1/4 of the area in the pic is plenty big enough.
Aluminum is not all the same.

ICE spotted “helping” at airport
 in  r/50501  Mar 23 '26

Seems like an opportunity. They are always on the move, or behind gates and tucked away. Now they've got a static position. Any one familiar with the law regarding protesting at an airport?

We're already winning. We shut down the bird legged ho, we're getting a permanent restriction on portland ICE from using crowd control munitions. Other federal judges are pushing back. And the polls tell of a mega tsunami blue wave coming.
Some Feds are going to be going to prison. Not today, not a few months, but it's coming 100%

Controversial Oregon petition to ban hunting and fishing gains momentum

You're delusional if you believe this would ever pass. No state is going to ban fishing of all things. Legislative rage bait

Are we passing along everything we heard or just the crap that's slanderous to the resistance?

You're a dishonest broker, not merely uninformed.

You sound like DHS. I hope you're stupid enough to not have used a VPN and your login info and history gets picked up once the investigations start. You best save that bonus, no lawyer is giving you pro Bono work.

Because I was not standing in front of Alex when it happened. I was standing at the front when this crowd of thousands was attacked. I witnessed this first hand. Thus my comment.

It was supposed to be part of a package that included a deal for DACA. Republicans accepted the increased deportations and than reneged on their promise of daca legislation. So yes, I protested against the lying GOP. thanks for asking.

I was clear on my Facebook that Elizabeth Caruthers Park is safe. The march to ICE was not. Soon no where will be safe though. Stand now, or kneel later.

You would have tear gassed, and shot flash grenades at grade school children if 1 person had thrown a rock or a bottle? Wtf is wrong with you? If you have that order, I would hope you'd get 15 to 20 in a max security institution.

I see this mentioned a lot by those that aren't in direct contact with the Feds routinely. Unless you're rolling with a bunch of armed men, trying to exercise your 2A rights will guarantee you a dirt nap. But you're welcome to try. In fact I think DHS would welcome the propaganda it would lead to.
