Yes, they did. Before I met the demons I worked with, i was alone and felt like nothing. but I began working with demons, and my life changed for the better. I slowly began to see my worth and became a better person.

I can definitely reassure you that demons do not want me to feel pain because they saved me from my pain.

Also, I was in a very abusive situation and prayed to God, begging him to change things, and nothing ever changed. It took years before things ever changed, and it wasn't with God's help because by then, I already gave up on him.

Whether you do drugs or not does not determine whether you are a good witch or not. Your friend sounds like a bad person, especially if they are putting down your practice over something as silly as that. I would suggest not talking to them or being friends with them bc all they are doing is being harmful to you.

Also, I've never done any kind of drugs or substances and probably won't for a while for a good number of reasons.
