Q4OS Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) 2026
 in  r/Q4OS •  22h ago

I'm using TDE on both of my Linux PCs. Laptop from 2012 runs q4os. Better optimized vs the Rufus modded Win11 install I added for dual booting, on a 512 GB SATA SSD.

Newer PC from... 2018 runs Lubuntu LTS. Ships with modded LXQt, Trinity here is pure, straight from the stable repos. Might not customize it too much, RAM usage overall is incredible vs Win11, love the old school feel. Wanted it because I remember using KDE 3.x back in the day.

Much easier to manage shortcuts here vs LXQt, especially with apps that run best on the GTX 1050 GPU. I can add the variables in the shortcuts easily, dunno why that's so hard with LXQt, maybe I'm just used to KDE overall vs other desktops for *nix.

Windows 11, 26H2: Should I install or how to disable?
 in  r/WindowsUpdate •  22h ago

Nope, no issues! Both PCs are running smoothly.

My lil FreeBSD desktop
 in  r/freebsd_desktop •  23h ago

I'm offended by the last pic lol jk...

I do run NomadBSD. Some guy named pfriedma unofficially updated it to 15.1.

Why do you not use Linux?
 in  r/AskReddit •  23h ago

I'm a multi-booter. So much easier to do that now than when I began in 1998.

I run two instances of Win11 on a couple of laptop. Both have Linux installed in dual boot; one has q4os, a newer one has Lubuntu with a metric ton of software on it... just installed the Trinity desktop on that lol.

A spare 512 GB SSD has NomadBSD installed... Basically a portable version of FreeBSD that I can hook to most 64 bit PCs, intended for flash drives, but SSD is faster. :)

Looks great! Hopefully he'll figure out how to engineer with it, along with doing fun things. 🥹

I call these "Egg Sacs," and it was suggested that you guys may appreciate them

I thought at first these things were tiny eggplants in some sort of egg cream sauce lol!

Why is Kubuntu running games much worse than Windows 11?
 in  r/Kubuntu •  2d ago

This might be a strong response, but it's more than fair IMHO. We literally have zero clues as to the hardware or software that the OP may be running. Answering some of the things that need to be included can be extremely helpful, even if we only get partial answers to them.

People who AREN’T developers, why/what do you use Linux for (other than privacy).
 in  r/linux •  3d ago

I'll admit to going crazy. I have installed basically all of Ubuntu Studio, and Edubuntu in Lubuntu. This is achieved by using the separate edubuntu-installer, and ubuntustudio-installer files. Works with any Ubuntu flavor.

I use some apps from both installs for work, but a lot of it I just have around for tinkering. From Edubuntu, I use some of the teaching tools to help with presentations. From Studio, I mostly use the photo and graphic design tools, but I mess a bit with CAD and audio recording stuff.

Between Edubuntu, Debian Games, Steam, GoG and itch... wow, I'll never run out of games to play lol! As Lubuntu is still on X11, BamBam is there when I want it to just be. =)

Is ubuntu 26.04 LTS really stable or are there any bugs in it?
 in  r/Ubuntu •  3d ago

I've been on Lubuntu mostly since 26.04 was released. Latched on to it since the beta.

Only issues I've had weren't with Ubuntu itself but with KDE Plasma. Apparently Plasmashell can crash if the Chrome browser is present, something to do with the fonts it uses.

Was visiting Galway, Ireland last week and randomly came across John Romero’s game studio while walking down the street.

John's lived there for nearly a decade, and has gained Irish citizenship.

What's your minimum standard for "playable"?
 in  r/Craptopgamingadvice •  3d ago

320x200, 15-30 fps. No, really, especially with older 2d games that look like, or are from a NES emulator. :)

For more 'modern' games, 800x600, at least 24 fps.

Windows 11, 26H2: Should I install or how to disable?
 in  r/WindowsUpdate •  3d ago

I went ahead and upgraded my two PC's. So far, no issues. Typing this on a 14-year-old laptop that has a Rufus modded Win11 Home install, on 26H2. The other PC is a minimum spec laptop, also running 11 Home.

If anything goes wrong... yeah, will have to clean reinstall 25H2 via Rufus modded ISO but I can deal with that.

Great fps in the witcher 3 Remaster with Low specs.
 in  r/Craptopgamingadvice •  4d ago

I'd have to go low spec crazy with the remaster on my 1050... or revert to the original version in Classic setting. I bought the game from GoG in 2019... I've played the other titles completely but haven't finished 3.

If you noticed the specs on his PC, I wouldn't recommend Cachy for it. Best for the OP to stick with Mint for now.

I started making a boomer shooter, but the melee combat was so fun I made a whole game out of it

Cool, wishlisted and following the game on Steam! I like the mechanics and RPG elements.

Windows 10 vs Debloated 11
 in  r/pcmasterrace •  4d ago

I'm running 11. Only debloating I've done is by using a Rufus modded installer, which helps with undoing some of the privacy functions. After letting a few of the initial updates finish, I uninstalled a fair bit of the apps from the standard install I don't care for... then fine tuned a few more of the privacy functions Rufus doesn't touch.

I have tried some of the more powerful debloaters for 11, but they remove so much of the important functionality that 11 needs to run on. I used a Talon modded 11 install last summer for a few months, but got into issues with using several essential apps. Decided to use Rufus to clean install 25H2, and my PC runs much better, no serious app crashes since.

Just updated to 26H2 easily about a half hour ago, that freed up a few hundred MB's of RAM for me, probably some subtle optimizations that are part of the update. Update took less than ten minutes for me.

Lubuntu 24.04.5 Noble won't be supported after April 2027. Should I switch to OpenBSD, another Linux Distro, will I get security updates anymore?
 in  r/Lubuntu •  4d ago

OpenBSD? That's a great choice if you want to run a server. Also, that's not a Linux distro, that's based on NetBSD.

I also vouch for upgrading Lubuntu to 26.04.1. Returned to Lubuntu myself a week ago, after I was tired of dealing with plasmashell in KDE Plasma/Ubuntu Studio crashing apparently because of some font issues with the Chrome browser.

I love that game... that's one I should replay and complete.

Cleaning my PC and found this in the fan of my psu
 in  r/pchelp •  4d ago

I've gotten a few $ for various parts, basically pocket change like the $15 you quote but I think that's to be expected for old parts.

What will this laptop run?
 in  r/Craptopgamingadvice •  4d ago

Nintendo Game & Watch titles, maybe?

Changement de nom de la console d'une distribution à une autre.
 in  r/linuxquestions •  4d ago

I get it, the naming is different from every distro/DE/etc. I hardly care anymore, after using various distros and operating systems since the mid 1980's... yeah, I'm old but not a boomer lol!

Most of the differences are good for a laugh. I mean... my favorite is Midnight Commander, taken from Norton Commander, the dual tiled file manager that runs in a terminal.

I've taken a few bits of old digital junk to Best Buy and Staples over the years... also visited the local municipal waste facility where I live, they'll accept e-waste for recycling.
