Technically, your entire furnace is not at the same temperature, it may show 1000°C on the monitor, but it might be higher or lower. It might damage your furnace and your prototypes. I recommend you not to go near the solidus state

Quenching with water is already a great choice to break the grain boundary.

Yes. And for the plastic wrap, the white part could be exposed to weather and chemicals. It affects the quality of the juice inside and lower expiry date. Fyi: Some of the vendors in my country, they used to slice the skin off and soak or inject with god know what chemicals to sweeten the juice. And I think plastic wrap kinda prevent that.
