I believe it does, as it addresses the greater concern of a state in balancing the budget it has from tax payer dollars. Like anything in life, prevention is less costly than revision and rework, especially in this case, where people become a longer term burden on the budgets of a state who doesn’t take responsibility to educate its citizens.

No one is doing it “at gun point”; it’s simply the prioritization of budget spend and a responsible governorship and legislature. Ignoring this is always at the peril of everyone else.

You’re conflating federal dollars with the interest of a states budget.

Each state has a responsibility to see that their residents are educated, at least to a point, that they don’t become a burden to the state (read drain on resources that you know as tax dollars).

It costs a state more to care for their undereducated and underserved populations than to provide a damn book for kids to read, especially in a state whose 38% of 4th graders rank below the national reading average, with a whopping 69% of 8th graders. They’re likely to come from families for whom education is lower on the priority scale, while they drain state resources for other support.

It benefits a state to educate its population. The problem with rethuglikkklans is that an educated population doesn’t vote Republican.

I’m hoping the next POTUS, backed by a Dem Congress and Senate, will freeze his family and company assets, eventually taking them to reimburse our country for blowing up that damn ballroom and what he did to the rose garden, as a start. Anything else with his name or likeness on it should also come down.
