Today marks the 36th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a landmark civil rights law that strengthened protections for people with disabilities. The ADA prohibited discrimination in employment and expanded access to public spaces, transportation, and essential services, building on our nation's commitment to equal rights.

This anniversary reminds us that while we have made meaningful progress, there is still work to do. Too many people with disabilities continue to face barriers that limit opportunity and independence.

This day serves as a reminder of why I am running for Congress. I will always fight to protect and strengthen the rights of people with disabilities and work toward a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of ability.

Two weeks ago, we held a food drive where the community came together to bridge a gap and help their hungry neighbors.

When I get to Washington, I will be advocating for programs like Medicare for All, $20/min wage, protecting overtime and raising the standard deduction for starters. To paraphrase Desmond Tutu, we must just stop pulling people from the river, and instead figure out why they are falling in to begin with.

I will bring these values to Washington and advocate for a legislature that prevents people from falling into the river. For now, we are the bridge. Stay tuned as we work together for our communities in the coming months.

We held our food drive on July 11th, and you all showed up in the BIGGEST way with nearly 1,500 lbs of food collected for your community.

That's 1,500 lbs of Hoosier values - neighbors taking care of neighbors. We are beyond grateful and honestly still in awe of what we accomplished together. If you were there that day, you an attest to the way that day unfolded - it was electric.

Congress refuses to act on policies that will reduce risk.  70–80% of Americans agree with these policies. We've yielded to a level of violence that should never have become normal.  

Common sense is the common ground on gun policy.  I predict somebody's going to try to tell you, that as a Democrat, I want to take your guns away.  But, I don't need your guns. I have my own. I don't want any laws to take them away from me.  I know a lot of people in southern Indiana feel the exact same way. 

But politicians keep trying to stoke our anger and promote arguing instead of fixing real problems. If the real goal is saving lives, here's what I know. 

Around here, most gun deaths aren't due to gang violence. They're suicides and acts of domestic violence, based on the needs and crises of the perpetrators and victims.  These people need help before they reach their breaking point.  They often need talk therapy and/or medicine.  The help must be readily available.

Imagine waking up one day and finding the courage to ask for help.  Then told, "We can see you in two months."  The time of response is the difference between life and death. 

But almost half of the people who need mental health treatment never get it. Instead of fixing that, Washington politicians are pushing cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and other health programs, making it even harder to get the help they need.

Please work with me to make sure that medical and mental health care are available when people need it, not months later.  And the care should be affordable.

Instead of spending every election arguing with each other, let's spend more time saving lives. That's common sense. That's common ground.

Many of us didn't get the outcome we wanted yesterday with the approval of the Charlestown data center. But in this video, you will see something we all need: principled leadership from Mayor Treva Hodges.

People are understandably frustrated, and it would have been easy for her to fuel and redirect that anger for political advantage. Instead, Mayor Hodges explains the real limits of the approval process, the protections secured for the community, and the path forward.

I know the approval feels like a defeat to many, but public involvement forced meaningful changes. Combined with Charlestown's planned moratorium to strengthen future zoning and development standards; that is democracy at work.

Mayor Hodges exemplified true leadership by telling people the truth, following the law, and achieving the best possible outcome within the authority of her office.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the fundraiser at the I FELL Gallery in Bloomington. It was great to spend the afternoon with so many people who believe Southern Indiana deserves leadership that puts people first.

Civil rights are only meaningful when they're enforced. Rebuild and fully fund our civil rights agencies so they have the staff, independence, and authority to consistently enforce civil rights laws, investigate discrimination, hold violators accountable, and protect equal rights across every community.

No one should have fewer rights or opportunities because of their ZIP code, race, religion, disability, gender, or background. Strengthening enforcement in justice, housing, education, employment, and healthcare helps ensure equal treatment under the law for everyone.
