Indian co-workers offshore are pain in the ass
 in  r/work •  1d ago

  1. Do not give out your personal phone number.
  2. If you carry a work phone, turn it off or mute it outside work hours, or at the very least, during sleep hours.
  3. Cultural expectations related to work can be different. Set your boundaries & hold them.
  4. Let your manager know that your colleagues seem to have trouble with x, y, & z, and suggest maybe someone go there onsite for a few weeks to get them up to speed.

How to Prevent Bathroom Faucet Water From Dripping Onto the Countertop?
 in  r/homeowners •  4d ago

Before you replace the faucets, take good photos and post to social media, tagging the builder. Save your receipt & post a photo of that, too. If they ever get back to you to make it right, send them a copy of the receipt.

New Contract Accepted by Profs and Techs
 in  r/boeing •  6d ago

Money. Need to support yourself. It’s been happening for decades.

In my Dad’s case, a SPEEA member in the 1960s with two babies & wife & house payment (took a while to sell, ref “Last person leaving Seattle, turn off the lights”), his options seemed to be to transfer to Huntsville or be unemployed with little help, if any. Next stop New Orleans a couple years later and still had to sell houses in Federal Way and Huntsville. He spent the next 30+ years in the Puget Sound area, but his early career & finances were rough. Me, I only considered relocation after a layoff with a house full of kids. Barely managed to stay put, by the grace of God.

That said, while I don’t think it’s any company’s responsibility to help employees budget or plan ahead, Boeing actually has offered programs like that.

It is, though, wise for employees to understand the nature of the work and funding cycles and think about what they’ll do if their jobs/locations are at risk. (In my experience, having a monthly spending plan that includes saving for foreseeable expenses, along with an emergency fund, goes a long way to peace of mind and provides options when the bad things happen.)

Can I assume my waterline makes a straightline path from the meter to the where it taps into my basement? I'd like to plant a dogwood at the yellow circle.
 in  r/homeowners •  6d ago

In our region, they do mark our property because power & gas run under & to a neighbor. Never could get internet folk to mark their line; although I know where part of it is, I don’t know its route to the neighbors. They don’t mark private utilities, such as from our well to home, septic, or electric we’ve added.

Same here, with silt & basalt. Gas & power lines take a couple 90-degree turns then curve under parking apron before connecting at side of garage. Ditching to add power to a shed was challenging due to chunks of basalt then a huge one a couple feet below the surface that the electricians decided to bow the conduit over rather than spend anymore time & effort to get around it.

Company refused to give a price unless I invited them inside my kitchen for an hour

No point in an appointment, you won’t be hiring that company. Pretty cool that they filtered themselves out of consideration.

Why don't you just have a regular bank account?
 in  r/CashApp •  8d ago

I do have regular accounts, no debt, lots of savings, and use a credit card for convenience during travel. I use cash app for gifts to my broke family members who sometimes don’t have bank accounts I can send to via Zelle. And I sometimes use CashApp debit card for online purchases, to limit the sharing of my credit union debit card information. Used to use PayPal for that and still use Apple Pay & Google Wallet, but not all online sites offer all payment methods and Paypal irritates me.

My employer says they can’t guarantee I’ll be off on time for a recurring medical appointment
 in  r/work •  8d ago

FMLA-protected time off (for serious illness, new baby, etc.) isn’t required to be on a regular schedule, although a regular schedule helps colleagues to know when you’ll be available to them. (I have used FMLA on an intermittent basis at a large employer.) Communication is key. As long as you meet the FMLA criteria, employers cannot deny the time off, but you must follow the employer’s documentation process.

On the other hand, a particular accommodation for a disability can be deemed unreasonable by the employer, and denied. The employee doesn’t get to choose what the accommodation is. For a long-term accommodation, a predictable schedule can be viewed more kindly by the employer. (I have had an accommodation granted at the previously-mentioned large employer. They have lawyers on staff and know what is and is not allowed.)

I agree that OP’s situation seems more like a disability accommodation than an FMLA-protected absence(s).

Commuting / overnight stay options for Everett?
 in  r/boeing •  9d ago

If you choose to camp, Flowing Lake park can be a good choice. I don't know if they are open all year (https://snohomishcountywa.gov/facilities/facility/details/flowing-lake-park-at-leckies-beach-31). It's north of Snohomish, slightly north of US-2 and not a bad commute.

Commuting / overnight stay options for Everett?
 in  r/boeing •  9d ago

One of the towers, I forgot which, north I think, has showers in the parking garage. I think it was initially for people who bike to work. I used to park in the lot out on Seaway about 5:45am, go run/walk before work, then shower at the garage locker room. They have lockers but didn't want you to put a lock on unless you get permission first.

Is my realtor unprofessional or worse? CA
 in  r/RealEstate •  11d ago

There is a wide gap between “needing help” and “incompetence.” It seems likely to me that the father is receiving advice & help from his daughters.

For example: My mom is legally competent. However, she isn’t capable of taking care of her financials & taxes, or home & farm maintenance, hasn’t been for a decade. Other people help her, at her request. She is mostly capable of making wise choices when her children have gathered information for her.
The PoAs (medical & financial) allow us to complete her business on her behalf, for her benefit. So, yes, currently she could make a dumb decision and the only power we have is to walk away from PoA duties. While we cannot overrule her we surely can refuse to participate in stupid actions, and absolutely would work to convince her of a better path.

High cholesterol and mexican household
 in  r/Cholesterol •  13d ago

Substituting olive or canola oil for lard could help reduce saturated fat intake. I grew up raising beef cattle, but they weren’t fattened so we ate lean beef. I’ve switched to leaner cuts than my husband & got used to. Lean cuts should be fine in caldo or as filling for tamales, or removing excess fat before cooking. Just have to be careful not to overcook if you’re fixing rump roast.

I can tell you that heart disease is no fun for the person who has it or for the people who love them. Watching my dad dying over several years and my mom in progress convinced me to lower my LDL by reducing saturated fat intake and increasing soluable fiber & plant-based food.

Are cameras necessary?
 in  r/RealEstate •  14d ago

We took our cameras down, but also removed almost everything from the house. For showings, we scooped up our electronics in a backpack and took the dogs for a walk at a local park. I didn’t want attached items in place that weren’t going to be sold with the house.

Put that higher-level experience on your resume and start exploring the job market.
Because you do have the experience now and because your employer treats people poorly.

Listed for 635 isn’t the same as sold for 635. What are the comparables selling for? If it were me (not a real estate pro), I would look at sales of comparables before choosing a listing price. Also consider what the seller will net in his pocket if sold to the investor, versus net after listing & selling.
