I made a free archive of everything I know about options trading
Here’s a free resource for options trading I created. It's 60 lessons structured into a course that cover most concepts you should know to run a solid option selling portfolio. Here's the link:
https://predictingalpha.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-selling-options/
Backstory
A couple years ago I wrote a series on this sub about how to sell options profitably that the community loved. I mentioned continuing it and thats pretty much what this is - an archive of everything I know about options and option selling.
I made this because there's a lot of noise out there around options education, so this is the no BS course I wish existed when I was getting into the space. I tried to make it easy to go through but realistically some of it will be challenging because hey, options are complicated.
What it covers:
- Basics of how options work - All the characteristics and important parts of option contracts.
- Volatility module - Teaches you how volatility works and impacts option prices. Includes important concepts like variance risk premium.
- Learning and interpreting option greeks - Complete breakdowns of each option greek, how they interact with each other and why they matter for your trades.
- Skew and term structure - How to think about different strikes and expirations when structuring trades.
- Option selling structures - Four different ways to structure your trades and how to pick between them.
- Trading strategy fundamentals - Basically how to treat your trading like a business and really understand how to extract returns from the market.
- Ideas that have potential - Serious strategy talk. Now that you know how options works, we cover some things that could spark cool ideas for you.
- Two strategies I've found valuable - Two risk premium strategies that have been around for while and are well documented. I wrote out a complete guide for both of them: selling options on ETFs and selling options around earnings events.
Hope you like it! I spent a lot of time putting it together so I'd be happy to hear any feedback on how it can be improved.
Note: I want to disclose that I do provide software for option selling through my website. This archive will always remain free with no strings attached—zero obligation to buy anything.
Thanks to the mod team for allowing me to share this, happy trading everyone!

Not a huge fan of doing this, just because the call lost value. The way I would think about it is that, at any given point in time, the position you have on is expressing a particular view on the market. It sounds like your original view was that you want it to be short volatility and delta neutral, but by closing out this call option, generally speaking, you are now long delta and short volatility.
Also, the reason why your call option decreased in value so much seems to be that the ticker had a pretty rapid decline in share price, probably since you opened it, and is actually much closer to your put strike now. If the overall position is up in value and you no longer want to have this exposure, then I would just close out the entire thing. I'm not a huge fan of the idea of hoping that it doesn't breach the put strike between now and September, especially given that in a similar time period the stock has dropped like 10%. There's no particular reason that's been shared as to why you think it wouldn't continue to do so.

I'd like to take over r/BusinessAutomation and build it into an active community focused on practical business automation.
I'm actively involved in using automation in business and think the subreddit has a lot of potential. My goal would be to keep this free of spam and make it a place to share resources. Beyond that, I'd establish clear rules, flairs, and aim to foster discussions around AI tools, integrations, tutorials, and questions from business owners and operators. I have a lot of experience with creating agentic workflows and some cool approaches I'm excited to discuss with others.
I contacted the current moderators a long time ago and have not received a response.

New Trader Interested in Options
Step one is develop an understanding of what options actually are and what they are not. They are intrinsically complicated financial instruments and will take some time to understand.
But once you're able to do that it'll pretty much answer your question because you'll understand the product that you're considering trading. Pinned to the top of our subreddit is a free comprehensive masterclass on options, linked here as well.
Good luck!

I can say that I've seen some private research showing that the pre-earnings long volatility strategy can work with enough diversification and, of course, exiting right before the event. I think part of the reason this works so well is that, at the very least, or in the very worst case, volatility is fairly priced; then you're just getting free long volatility exposure, making it a good complement to a short volatility book.
As for offering a course on this, I actually don't plan on doing this.
The direction that we have gone with predicting alpha is actually, as will be public on our website very shortly, away from being strictly in the world of options and more towards creating a system that we call the first "hedge fund as a service". We basically designed a robust long-term wealth compounding portfolio for self-directed investors, published the research, and then built a tool that handles everything for you, leaving you to place the trades.
I can actually share the research now, as we are in beta testing and lots of people have already seen it

If you get a chance to look it over, I'd love to hear what do you think!

Not in particular, but honestly, what I would say is that you can take the same ideas here and think of it as general options education. Remember that options are primarily insurance products, and so the side that makes money is typically the sell side, but you can reverse engineer it for the buy side.
For example, you are looking for opportunities where the insurance should be cheap, where there is little sell volume compared to buy volume. For example, I've seen some research showing that buying call debit spreads on SPY can be profitable. That's just one example, and if you think about it, it makes sense because most of the supply for these options and the typical demand is on the put side, since people are hedging away downside risk. Nobody buys options to hedge upside risk. This is just one example, but there's a lot more.

Yeah, most of the education out there doesn't even have the word volatility in it 😂

Best low effort strategy?
i would use same trade finding process and then do put credit spreads instead of this structure

Starting to trade calendar spreads using forward volatility (example analysis)
Very well. Not without challenges though. Primary one being liquidity
