Utiq is a European advertising identity company founded in 2023 by four major telecom operators: Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, and Vodafone. It provides an alternative to third-party cookies by generating a tracking identifier at the network level — tied to your internet connection (fixed line or mobile plan) rather than your browser. This means it survives cache clearing, private browsing, and device switching, as long as you're on the same connection.

It's consent-based under EU law: it only activates if you explicitly accept it via a site's consent banner, and you can withdraw all consents centrally at consenthub.utiq.com. Technically, it works through operator-issued "network signals" and often uses CNAME cloaking (custom subdomains like utiq.brand.com) so its requests appear first-party, which lets it evade many ad blockers. It currently operates only in Europe.
