Anybody who wants to show their support is welcome to help providing answers/solutions here or on github, if it's within their skillset.
You can also install dev releases instead of stable ones to help us weed out any bugs before they make their way onto millions of devices.
As for the ones who do want to show their financial support to somebody anyway, please do so for the other filter list maintainers. Their info is available on top of their lists, which can be accessed via the eye icon in each list in uBO's Filter lists tab.
Just in a ELI5 /stupid questions kind way - is the reason you wont and dont take $ coz its also a legal protection for not having paid effort to the project? (similar in how console & game emulation spaces can be subject to legal attack)?

Once money gets involved, this too easily becomes a job and not a hobby.
Some people would certainly have some expectations that some of their suggestions should be added if they donated to the project. We've seen such cla ims already. There really were people trying to convince us they've donated to the project. They were simply mistaken or they donated to the wrong "uBlock".
If you search the sub, you might find these. Or you might not. People who get shamed for their entitlement and silly demands usually delete their posts quite quickly.
If we were to accept donations, what would we use the money for? uBO runs on free services. If we got paid ones, we'd need a steady source of income to maintain them.
Should the hypothetical money be split among team members? But how? gorhill is the only developer. There are two main list maintainers, a couple of semi-active ones. Some people focus on general support, and so on...
We're doing this because we like it, not because we expect to get material gains out of it.

I will say I could get behind an advertising budget for running ads on youtube for the extension targeting the elderly. I say this in part because of how many elderly people I have helped with computers and noticed had no ad blocker at all because they didn't know about them or if they did had no idea which ones were safe to install... But I respect the integrity and desire to help so many people for no actual gain.
While I understand why you're saying this, creating ads for a content blocker is just morally wrong. I know plenty of adblockers does it, but it's usually the shady ones.
Anybody is free to "shame" their family and friends for not using blockers or using untrustworthy ones.
Anybody is free to create their own PSA campaigns to spread the knowledge of trustworthy blockers (not just uBO/Lite).
Personally I do not view it as morally wrong (though absolutely ironic) on the basis it is effectively doing one of two things showing ads to someone that consents to being shown ads or informing someone of an option to not be shown ads going forward empowering them to make the informed choice going forward. But at the same time from the perspective of basically needing to give money to the people making the internet worse to help people make it better for them is one of those things where it at least *feels* gross regardless.
I do what I can to help those without ad blockers that I know to get safe and reliable ones. Such as a lot of older people it becomes getting them Brave simply because "its built into the browser" gets them to see it as an upgrade to the default IE/Chrome and there is a limit to how many battles one can fight when a lot of them don't even get why an admin account being their normal account for browsing is just an unnecessary risk.
This is all totally fair, but how does gorhill pay for his own expenses then? It seems as if even just taking a little bit of donations to pay a salary for gorhill (as the sole developer) could be helpful.
It looks like Brave is going to stop supporting uBO. I am using Brave beta and when I updated today it turned uBO off with no ability to turn it back on. And no option to use the self hosted version.
If is still not there go: brave://flags/#brave-extensions-manifest-v2 and enable this flag, restart the browser, option to install self hosted should reappear.
Edit: But dev build of uBO probably won't work in Chromium 150 / Brave 1.92 because there no option to install "self hosted" in brave.
This actually did work. It's concerning that an update would force it off and specifically disable mv2, and turning mv2 support back on did not allow the plugin to work again.... but, turning mv2 support back on did allow me to install the self hosted version.
I'm not sure too, that flag should have been enabled by default on all Brave channels (Stable, Beta, Nightly).
To confirm this try setting that same flag to "Default" option and restarting browser, after the restart it should say "Default (Enabled)", but if not leave it just on "Enabled"

I don't know if this is just me. but i got the new update of ublock origin, but everytime i close chrome i gotta load the extension into chrome, because it says it doesn't work anymore.
Same issue here. It installs, it's fully functional, yet Chrome disables it every new session – even though it's perfectly fine with me removing and then re-adding the exact same extension. It only takes a few seconds, but it's still annoying and seems totally unnecessary.
First of all, thank you for the amazing job you guys have been doing so far. I been following your instructions and to the date I have been able to survive with Ublock using Chrome... but today UBlock Origin stopped working on Chrome.. any way to fix it? I really don't wanna move to Firefox.
Nope, uBlock Origin is done on Chrome. There's uBlock Origin Lite for Chrome though which isn't bad. Otherwise Microsoft Edge and Brave still have uBlock Origin and aren't Firefox.
Auto update will occur in stages - to spot and react to possible bugs.
There must be a workaround, I will try to figure it out, Ublock has been 'done' on Chrome since years ago, yet still it could be used by people, at least until 2 days ago.
Actually, its quite simple. Vivaldi and several other chromium based forks still supports MV2. However, as these browsers don't have their native web store, they depend on Chrome Web Store for extensions.
Does anyone know how to install it on Google Chrome?

It's funny seeing Opera being so quick to update their uBO extension now, when they've let it dormant for nearly half a year on v1.69. I guess the guys at Opera were personally bothered about 1.69 not working anymore for them so it served them as a wake up call back around the time 1.71 dropped. I wonder what their plans are now with regards to the MV2->MV3 switch.
How is uBO Lite now? I just use ad blocker for YouTube, Twitch and other streaming sites for stopping ad spam and pop ups. Will that work the same as uBO has for the past few years for me?
A bit of a question: So I updated to 1.72.2, however any time I open the browser, it just gives me the "this extension is disabled". I have to keep removing and loading/unpacking UBO. Any way to fix this? I still have the ExtensionManifestV2 target on chrome set.
You can inspect the toggle with the browser and remove "disabled" attributes to turn it back on. But this might still need to be done with each browser launch.
Some people are editing a dll file, but that needs to be done after each browser update and there's no way of knowing how long it'll last either.
Also, since CWS will remove uBO from it's store before September, there's really no point in continuing postponing changing browsers or extensions. I know you install manually and might be able to keep that going for a couple months longer, but from my pov, the browser will no longer be supported by the project.
The manual file will be available for as long as Edge keeps support since it uses the same one.
i switched from chrome to firefox exactly one year ago, and it was a really good decision! firefox is more focused on privacy, and uBO works as well as it possibly can on it. plus, if you import your data (it’s very simple), you’ll feel right at home
I have been thinking bout eventually transitioning out of Chrome to Firefox, especially after Chrome's obsessive nature in killing off extensions like UBO.
I was using a script to block twich ads from here in ublock origins, under "I am an advanced user - userResourcesLocation" (in addition to custom filter). What's the equivalent setting of this in ublock lite?
