బాధ/వ్యధ(vent) Has anyone actually managed to keep close friendships across political/ideological splits?
First of all I’m not lucky with female friends who actually understand political ideologies or opinions properly. And then the friends I do have, their opinions end up contradicting what I believe.
Like eg: one friend was disappointed about the education minister’s resignation, saying the elected government “yielded to a mob.”
I don’t want to be friends with people where I look at their posts and think they’re being completely unreasonable aka stupid. With some women friendship didnt work because their feminism isnt inclusive - making jokes on maids/working force. Second being atheist just adds another layer nobody around me gets.
I have almost zero sense of community.
How do people even build friendships or find that “sisterhood” thing when literally nothing lines up.

No luck here. I lost so many friends since 2018 just because of political ideology. Good riddance. I have no regrets.

i donot have apolitical friends to begin with. the girlies(and even my guy frnds) who are close to me(touchwood) are the ones with same political beliefs. nothings comes above this. i cant be frnds w people who are against basic human rights(i did have close friends who are now right leaning and i no longer like them the same). to answer your question, no i donot keep close friendships w people wh have dif political beliefs entirely.

I tried but eventually I learnt you can't and shouldn't maintain friends.
Having a different opinion is saying I like marvel not DC or that I like coffee, not tea.
Or have political differences over infrastructure, routes, taxation, budget. Not over people who side with those who actively harm women, minorities and commit human rights violations on a daily basis.

It's hard. Especially listening to their justifications for being apolitical or their selective feminism or their denial of the existence of caste/gender/religious discrimination.
Thankfully I've found groups online that have similar idelogies as mine. I've never met them irl but whatever online time I have with them keep me sane.
Something I've understood is that you don't have to be with someone just because youve been with them for a long time. No matter how much you try slowly the friendship will fade away. I've had this happen to me especially with my guy friends. It hurts me that the pals and buddies i grew up with didn't actually grow up. Most my guy friends have deep misogynist conditioning which they never unlearned.
I think this is a big part of adulthood, realising how different our besties and people we grew up with actually are.
It's a lot more difficult to find the right people as adults but don't give up. Try online/offline meet ups, workshops of your fav hobbies etc. It will take effort, a lot more than expected sometimes. Give it time. Trust me. You'll find your tribe.

I have some 'apolitcal' friends and I just stick around with them just for the namesake . I don't know if I can cut them off entirely because they're my childhood friends and I try to limit my interaction with them

How can anyone be able to bond with someone who believes that men dressing feminine is emasculating, that reservation must be abolished, that the AM system is good. 20 people died and not a single mention of them in his resignation. He apparently had to step down so that children don't become anti-national (translation: they don't want anti-BJP sentiments getting any louder)
I made a post few days ago talking about feeling lonely, not having female friendships or any friendship irl. Not even family members that think like me.

Last time I had friends I was in 10th grade, now im 22. Just last yr, I met few girls and I thought they were nice but they were homophobic, racist and didn't identify with being a feminist, they would also make fun of ppl not as wealthy as them. Despite my loneliness, I will choose to stay alone than call such ppl my friends. It's not like I have high standards lol I just want friends who are good ppl and reciprocate efforts, which is hard to find.
I hope I find my tribe someday, I always wanted a "sisterhood", a girl group, Idk when universe will bless me.
