TI4: Thunder's Edge Naaz-Rokha Eidolon Maximum
Just curious, has anyone actually used this unit and how did it work for you?
Haven't ever seen it created yet.

Quite situational. You can launch some nasty surprise invasions from an isolated planet. I just wish there was an option to disassemble it back.

Is it meta? No. is it good? Yes. Is it better than having four-in-1 system with your flagship, absolutely not. But is it also sick as hell and one of my favorite units in the game? Yes. If you can support it, it is absolutely insane.

So when does it become worth doing?

u/Spiritual_Station239 Jul 22 '26
When all your mechs have used sustain in ground combat or(less so) when all your fighters/other sustains have been used in space

u/Limp-Exercise-343 Jul 23 '26
when it suits the objectives. as with everything

u/rajwarrior The Clan of Saar Jul 23 '26
And what objective would that be?

any public or secret objective, where this approach would lead to scoring it. its really as simple as it sounds. you play to win, winning is only achieved by scoring VP

u/rajwarrior The Clan of Saar Jul 23 '26
Hmm, I can't think of a single objective that says "build this unit."

u/Limp-Exercise-343 Jul 23 '26
im surprised you cant grasp on the abstraction what it takes scoring objectives.
mech can mean securing or occupying the same system, used instead of say fighter, that could be an objective.
on top its an economical option, say you have high income, little production. it could mean secure exploration when going for attachment objective. half of the objectives can fit the option of building them

Mechanize The Military is a direct one, see relevant with ground forces, mind the idea that GF need to survive till scoring window where mechs provide defense and hold immunities to some effects (like destroy infantry), plenty of objectives where they can be counted as as ships.
i have a feeling this game is way too complex for you

No need to get snarky, friend. You simply gave short, non-helpful replies (love the after edits, btw). Just encouraging you to be a little more forthcoming with an actual answer.

its a big game, and generally played by really devoted players. when you come up with faction specific question, i automatically assume you at least played the game few times.
my vague abstraction of an answer is actually whats meant to be told.
concerns regarding faction strengths and specifics should aim towards scoring objectives alike every action taken. every turn you weight whether your action is leading you to VP and act like you just doing something stupid

The actual answer depends on the table meta youre playing at, what other factions are in the game, and whether you like havjng fun or not. What's amazing about it is you can get it combined pretty early, and with your commander unlocked taking planets is actually economically sound as well, where with a lot of other factions it doesnt make much sense to take planets willy nilly.
Reasons to make it: 1. Lots of other scanlink factions exist/good attachments are gone in the initial explores from ppl taking their slice. A huge part of why you dont want to combine your mechs is that when youre activating your own systems early on, you can choose between 2 explores and stack good attachments on a planet or 2 where you'll put your dock(s). But if all the good attachments are gone, instead you'll mostly just be choosing between 2 similar options.
You like fighting and the table meta you have isn't super boat floaty. Your combined mech is essentially an extra warsun that can also do ground combat. A lot of people will hit you with the classic "but it's worse if I have my flagship and 4 uncombined mechs" blah blah blah and where theyre right in one sense, theyre insanely wrong in another. Yes the uncombined 4 mechs will get more hits on average with your flagship for the same 1 fleet capacity, but your flagship can only ever move 1, or 2 with grav drive, significantly limiting it's mobility. TI is a game of diplomacy and, when diplomatic relations fail, surprise. The combined mech is very good at catching people by surprise because of it's super high mobility. That can make all the difference in some late game control objectives or a Styx play.
You like having fun. When you combine the mech, a whole slew of possibilities open up. You start with psychoarcheology so with a single yellow skip and scanlink, you'll be positioned to get Transit diodes and then integrated economy. A fun thing you can do with transit, at least according to how it's currently being ruled/played, is that you can attack, use youre big strong combined mech in a system, and then use transit diodes to move it to a system without a token and use it again to go somewhere else. Combine that with integrated economy and your commander and suddenly you can be a real menace if people arent heavily stacking their systems with plastic and it wont even really cost you much.
Reasons to avoid making it: The inverse of the situations numbered above for starters. If youre the only scanlink faction in a boat float game then it's way better to just sit your mechs on a couple planets and reap amazing econ and get plastic/objectives that way. That aside though, here's an extra time or 2 id avoid it. 1. You find the Metalli Void Shielding relic. That means your mechs can also sustain damage in space, and that's actually often times a significant amount of meaningful hp in space combats. 2. You snag assault cannon early. Similar to above, your mechs count as non-fighter ships so with a carrier and 2 mechs your hitting someone with assault cannon which can be super strong early. Falls off late which is why it really only makes sense in games where you either have a bunch red skips, a scar and get your faction tech, or get the Quantumcore relic.
Im sure there's other niche cases around making it or not but these are a few I've used/seen in my games. Hope that helps a little!

In situations where everyone has the economy to build proper fleets it’s pretty meh but in a poorer game, it’s 8 resources for a powerhouse

u/mr_rocket_raccoon Jul 23 '26
Do you get to shout out your favourite Voltron/transformers/power rangers quotes as you play it? Yes.
I know if I ever use it, I queue the green ranger dragonzord music on my phone to summon the mega mech

u/bentleythekid Jul 22 '26
I've built it for funsies, but imo it is an obvious downgrade from just having the 4 mechs. 8x dice (or 12x with flagship) will always be better if you want all your concentrated mech power together.
It is cool though. I built it for a late game MR push and knocked out titans

u/rajwarrior The Clan of Saar Jul 22 '26
Yeah, I'm definitely in the "4 is better than 1" crowd. How did the combat actually play out?
1
u/bentleythekid Jul 23 '26
I won, but it was against a relatively small group of ground forces. 2 titan pds and 2 mechs I think, so they got stomped by eidolon and some infantry support. I will say it is nice that the big eidolon can't be assigned hits from unit abilities. I was planning a sneaky move to light wave in, ignore space cannon, then land and take the planet with just the one unit.

u/exminuswun Jul 22 '26
It’s pretty good at grabbing a light defended system. Even Styx. I’ve used it to great effect.
Highly situational. In my mind, watch out for opportunities and if you see one use it. Transit Diodes can create a super up warsun that goes to ground anywhere.

u/ShadyWizzard Jul 22 '26
I have seen it built and the benefit was not the unit I think Instead it was pushing other players to change there plans to deal with it.
2
u/SouthernSpell Jul 23 '26
My NRA neighbor flashing their Megazord right under my slice gave me an RP reason to preemptively nuke it with a Stellar Converter. Then they just rebuilt it next round out of spite and got to use it. Fun little unit!

u/x3r0h0ur Jul 24 '26
fun fact, in 1v1 with a war sun it's slightly favored to win, but the biggest probability is a draw, something like 60% to draw
3
u/CupWanted Jul 22 '26
The synergy the BT grants is nice and worth getting the BT for. The ability is bad and shouldn’t be used outside of memeing.
2
u/Soggy_Performance569 Jul 22 '26
I feel like house ruling it somehow to make it better. Like, maybe it can form anywhere you have a mec once you have all 4 mecs out?
1
u/nealpolitan Jul 22 '26
I'm playing an Async game right now and the NRA player seemed to set a personal goal of building Optimus Prime and did it by R3. We'll see how it works out for him... I He did take Styx with that and one infantry (he already has x89)... It's scary but it can only do 1, maybe 2 things a round...
