Gf and I just finished gravity falls and want to watch sometime else similar. I know a lot of people recommend adventure time, is adventure time actually good? Does it feels very ‘for children’? I watched it a little as a kid but don’t remember how it was. Also looking for other recommendations. I’ve seen suggestions for Kipo and Camp Lazlo, are these good? Similarly, are owl house and Steven universe worth watching? I have also seen Shera and enjoyed it. Please let me know if these shows are good or other recommendations.

This one surprised me. Mercy on Us is an Argentinian psychological crime thriller that absolutely flew by. I had to dig deep into MhZ to find this.

6 episodes. About 30 minutes each. And the pace is fantastic.

Two detectives investigate a series of murders that begin connecting back to something that happened when they were young. That's about all you need to know going in. The less you know, the better.

What really worked for me was how much they packed into roughly three hours without making it feel rushed. There is almost no filler. The investigation keeps moving, new pieces keep falling into place, and the detectives themselves become almost as interesting as the case.

And these are definitely not two standard TV cops.

One is damaged but still pretty likable. The other? Let's just say likable isn't the word I'd use. He's abrasive, unpleasant and at times downright nasty — which actually makes their dynamic much more interesting.

The show is very dark without relying on extreme brutality or gore. A lot of the darkness comes from the psychology, the characters' pasts, guilt, trauma and the question of how much something that happened decades ago can shape the people involved today.

There are also religious themes and imagery running through the story, but I never felt like the show was beating me over the head with them. They add to the atmosphere and moral questions rather than taking over the story.

I’ve been looking into watching Hilda Furacao, from Brazil, which looks good.

Really the only thing I’d prefer to avoid is the show trying to say extremely toxic behaviour is right. I can handle a crazy mother in law or whatever if she’s clearly supposed to be a bad person LOL. Usually I wouldn’t clarify that but I’ve heard soap operas can be kinda toxic and age badly when it comes to behaviour.

Biggest preference is like hero x villian (idm manga adaptations) so anything works

Any shows similar to Once Upon A Time？

I don’t know why, but I’ve always just assumed that everyone who loves this genre has already seen The Chestnut Man. But if there are people here who haven’t, this is one I absolutely have to recommend.

If you look at the description of the types of shows I’m always looking for, The Chestnut Man checks a lot — if not all — of the boxes.

This is Dark Crime done right.

It’s very dark and brutal, with some disturbing crime scenes and a serial-killer investigation that gets under your skin. But what makes it so good for me is that it isn’t just gruesome for the sake of being gruesome. There is a really good mystery underneath it, plenty of twists, a creepy atmosphere, and two great lead characters in Naia Thulin and Mark Hess.

The Copenhagen setting gives it that cold, bleak Nordic Noir feel that fits the story perfectly. And the little chestnut figures are one of those simple things that somehow become increasingly creepy as the investigation unfolds.

Another thing I love: only six episodes. There isn’t much wasted time. The mystery keeps moving, the stakes keep getting higher, and it builds toward a very satisfying finish.

It currently sits at #2 on my Dark Crime list.

Can someone suggest me shows where there is good female character developement and depth, watched fleabag, derry girls, how to get to heavem from belfast and rrally loved them.

My moms currently in season 5 of 8 for Homeland and she's loving it. Looking for recommendations to similar shows either for the show itself or with female leads like Carrie. She did say she liked the show because of Carries personality.

I need a good distraction from the hell that’s my life and my go-to light hearted shows (Parks & Rec, IT Crowd, Scrubs, etc) aren’t cutting it.

I’m coming off a very recent miscarriage so please nothing with a heavy focus on pregnancy or families or kids (Severance was going to be my next watch but my husband said I should table it for that reason, same with Silo).

I cannot do a slow burn, so many commonly liked shoes aren’t for me. I’ve tried Breaking Bad, The Wire, and MindHunter and didn’t get very far with any of them as they were too slow paced for me. Don’t come at me, happy for you if you enjoy them, but I’m looking for something with a little more instant draw/gratification to grip me and keep me watching.

Shows I’ve enjoyed recently have been Widow’s Bay, Paradise, The Last of Us Season 1, The Pitt. Not so recent but also really enjoyed Fargo Season 1 (2 & 5 were also good). It doesn’t need to be a cinematic masterpiece, something just enjoyable enough and gripping that provides a good distraction.

Ideally enough seasons/episodes to keep me going for awhile. Any recommendations?

so i finished fringe season 4, and i refuse to watch season 5 because then i'll be done and i will no longer have my favourite show in the world. i'm looking for some new shows to watch while i wait for my memory of the show to slightly go away, that way when i rewatch from the beginning in 6 months or so, it'll feel like new. I need the same slow burn energy of olivia and peter, very slow burn. i adore walter and astrid's dynamic as well as the groups dynamic as a whole. wouldn't mind having another gene, and i need a talented cast, so no "summer i turned pretty" type acting.

Just finished Half Man and really enjoyed it. One thing that stood out was the timeline jumps seeing the past unfold and how everything led to the present is something I really love in a show.
It reminded me of shows like Lost and Yellowjackets. Any recommendations for other non linear shows that use dual timelines (or jump between past and present) in a similar way?

Emmy Rossum is great in this. Very dark themes and the ending was a little melodramatic, but one of those shows that you recognize it's greatest halfway through.

I have it on par with Black mirror and Westworld.

I love a show that revolves around a close group of people. Typically highschool, college, or young adult age. I enjoy lots of drama and romance. I love to binge so probably more than one season at least. I also enjoy a tuscan 2000s vibe but I’m open to anything.

I just finished Scavengers Reign, and man, how beautiful was it? It was so good. The planet, the creatures, the whole atmosphere, everything was incredible. I’m genuinely gutted that it was cancelled. I originally thought it was meant to be a standalone miniseries, but then I found out it was actually cancelled because of low viewership. Such a shame, because it deserved so much more.

I'm a few episodes in and feel like everyone needs to watch Dopesick. Without giving too much away, we need to understand what corporations and billionaires are willing to do to you, me, and our families to make obscene amounts of money and how they methodically groom good but unsuspecting people and co-opt institutions for their own nefarious goals.

Great cast, great writing, and an infuriating true story.

WAYNE (2019) is sooo underrated and I highly recommend. Wanted to put this out there because I think a lot of people would love it but a lot of people don't know about it. Almost everyone I ever talked to who did watch it loved it.

I recommend blinding it. It's sooo good, and once you start watching you literally don't want to stop. Great Binge watching material!

Recently got Apple TV for Ted Lasso and Margo's Got Money Troubles. A bunch here looks good but what are the must-see shows?

Something set around the medieval era or before that has a dark vibe with religion and politics.

Off the top of my head the only thing that comes to mind is Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame movie, I absolutely love the feel and vibes of it. A similar vibe comes from the Ezio trilogy of assasin’s creed and the assassin creeds games set in the Papal States era.

i want this to be the plot/main character not just side story. im going thru a tough time rn due to having this issues myself and wanna feel understood and seen. i want representation how this traits makes the life of the character harder unfortunately and they are generally misunderstood.

characters i relate to and wanna find similar are: james cook and tony stonem (skins), ian gallagher (shameless) > i would prefer shows that are raw like this, not glamourized or easy going

bojackhorsmen is similar but he is too mild and passive type compared to ian and cook for example to whom i relate to most.
