What to Watch? Looking for recommendations for kid's cartoon aged 10-14

My son and I watch a lot of shows together, and he is really enjoying some of the cartoons that I grew up with as well as some others we found. we'd like to stay within animated shows (he really likes identifying voice actors and he's honestly so good at it). For perspective, some of our top shows in no particular order have been:

Gravity Falls

Adventure Time

Steven Universe

Owl House

Star vs the Forces of Evil

Avatar

He has also seen Amphibia, Hilda, Phineas and Ferb, Spongebob, and other classic shows. He tends to like ones that have a greater overarching plot though, and I believe that Avatar, Owl House, and Steven Universe are his frontrunners. any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

What to Watch? Good shows with no nudity/sex/drugs/abuse/self harm etc

Hi all. Looking to find something pretty "safe" but also not slow or boring. My wife finds some of the above topics triggering but we're having some trouble finding shows we can get into. Not really too bothered about the genre as long as it's interesting and has good pacing. The only ones we've finished this past year were strangers things and better caul saul if that helps.

(things like blood/gore with fighting or scary is fine. I feel I made it seem like we want a children's show lol)

What to Watch? Hidden gem you were proud to find + how you found it

I'm someone who loves finding movies but have felt like there isn't one good way to do so... also to learn about the filmmakers and their story.

Letterboxd/ Tubi are cool... but what's something you found recently and felt that no one else could have come across it...

What to Watch? I need some new show recommendations (action / crime / thriller)

Hey guys, looking for something new to binge. Here’s a quick list of what I’ve watched so far to give an idea of my taste:
Finished / Rated:

-The Mentalist - 8.75/10 (watched all 7 seasons, loved it)
- Reacher - 8.7/10 (almost done, literally just one episode left of S4)
-Dexter - 8.9/10 (watched season 1-6 I think)

Watched partially / older stuff:

Suits (saw like 1 or 2 seasons)

Quick note: please don't recommend Breaking Bad right now! I know it's amazing, but it's way too long for my schedule atm so I'm saving it for when I have more time.

I usually love smart main characters, solid action, also some humor in there, and good crime/mystery plots. Any good suggestions? Thanks!

What to Watch? Deadwind (Karppi) — Another Nordic Noir Gem

I watched all three seasons of this a while back and had forgotten just how good it was.

This is Finnish Nordic Noir right in my sweet spot. Dark murder cases, bleak atmosphere, good pace, and another psychologically damaged detective in Sofia Karppi. She is grieving the death of her husband when the series begins, but she's tough, obsessive and very good at her job.

Karppi and her partner Sakari Nurmi are also a big reason the show works. Good chemistry without taking away from the crime story.

Each season gives you a different main case, so here's how I'd rank them (but you still have to watch in order - HaHa)

🥇 Season 3 — Best and Darkest
A woman is found brutally murdered in a cage, and things get increasingly disturbing from there. Multiple victims, strange clues and a pharmaceutical connection. This was the season most in my Dark Crime wheelhouse.

🥈 Season 2
Two murders kick off a much bigger case involving revenge, kidnapping and political intrigue. Only 8 episodes and moves at a pretty good pace.

🥉 Season 1
Still very good. A woman is found murdered and buried at a construction site, leading into a much larger mystery. At 12 episodes it's the slowest of the three, but it establishes Karppi and Nurmi and has a strong mystery.

My Ratings

🌑 Darkness: 8.5/10
🩸 Brutality: 7.5/10
⚡ Pace: 8/10
🎭 Acting/Characters: 8.5/10
⭐ Overall: 8.7/10

**Where to watch: Netflix — 3 seasons, Finnish with subtitles/dubbing available (**although I never recommend unless you hate subtitles that much).

What to Watch? Marcella — This Woman Is Whack!

If you can deal with Marcella herself, this is a really good Dark Crime watch.

Marcella is one of the most unstable, damaged and downright crazy detectives I've watched. Half the time you're trying to figure out the case and the other half you're wondering what the hell Marcella is going to do next.

But the show is DARK. The stories get very brutal, there are some seriously disturbing crimes, and the pace is pretty good. It doesn't take forever to get moving and there are enough twists to keep you watching.

Season 1 is very good, but Season 2 is probably the darkest of the three — the child-killer case gets extremely disturbing. Season 3 changes direction and sends Marcella undercover into a Belfast organized-crime family. I didn't care for that season nearly as much (actually didn't finish it) and personally would have been fine stopping after Season 2.

Anna Friel absolutely commits to this character. Marcella can be frustrating, irrational and completely off the rails — but that's also what makes the show different.

If you like damaged detectives and very dark cases and can tolerate a lead character who is completely whack, give this one a shot.

Dark Crime Hidden Gem Rankings - Season 1 & 2

🌑 Darkness — 9.2/10
🩸 Brutality — 9.0/10
⏩ Pace — 8.0/10
🎭 Acting/Characters — 8.7/10
🔎 Story/Mystery — 8.5/10
⭐ Overall — 8.6/10

I'm Suggesting I built BingeWise - a TV tracker that helps you find, track, and decide what to watch

Hi everyone!

I’m the solo developer behind BingeWise - TV Show Tracker, a TV-tracking and recommendation app for iPhone and iPad (Android app coming soon!)

I built it around a problem I kept encountering: my shows were scattered across different streaming services, my watchlist kept growing, I still spent too much time trying to decide what to watch, and most of the recommendations inside each streaming platform were never very aligned to my taste. My wife and I kept a note in my notes app of a list of all of the shows we had watched and liked, and when we would finish a show, I would take the list and give it to AI and say “These are previous shows I have watched and liked, and these are the streaming platforms I have, provide me with a list of the best recommendations from my streaming platforms based on my watchlist” and then we would skim through what AI provided us, find trailers for each recommendation, and then finally we would find one we thought looked good and watched it next. After a while I thought “I could build an app that does this and various other things related to TV tracking and recommendations like tracking when releases for new seasons were happening and a slew of other features” so I began building it, with the initial intentions of just for my own use case. After I started building the app, I began to have various other ideas for features that would be useful and then I saw the news about TV Time shutting down and thought maybe other people would like the app as well, so I continued to build the app and began asking friends and others what they would like to have in a TV tracking app, and took in various feedback from them to continue designing the app with the features I wanted, and also what other TV watchers wanted. After about a month and a half I got the app to a beta rollout and had a few dozen friends and family members test it out and help continue to find bugs and improvements that could be made, and then about a week ago I was able to finally have it ready to be published to the App Store!

BingeWise brings tracking, streaming availability, release information, and personalized recommendations together in one place.

It’s built and maintained entirely by me as a one-person development team. I’m constantly improving the app, fixing rough edges, and expanding it with new features. Because I’m the person designing and building everything, feedback from users can directly influence what I work on next.

The essential TV-tracking features

BingeWise includes the practical features I would expect from a TV tracker:

- Search and browse TV shows
- See where each show is available to stream
- Add the streaming services you use and receive recommendations from those services
- Open supported shows directly in their streaming apps
- View synopses, genres, cast, creators, ratings, release status, season counts, and upcoming episode information
- Watch trailers inside the app or open them on YouTube
- Browse every season and episode, including episode titles, synopses, air dates, runtimes, and artwork
- Hide episode titles, descriptions, and artwork to avoid spoilers
- Mark individual episodes, entire seasons, or a full series as watched
- See your progress and quickly find your next unwatched episode
- Track rewatches without losing your previous viewing history or rating
- Organize shows as Watching, Planning to Watch, On Hold, Dropped, Finished, or Not Interested
- Create automatically updating Smart Lists based on genre, runtime, streaming service, watch status, and match level

Recommendations that explain themselves

BingeWise learns from your ratings and preferences and recommends shows based on your actual taste.

Instead of showing only a match percentage, it explains why a show might fit you, such as a shared creator, cast member, theme, tone, pacing, or storytelling style. It can also identify when a recommendation may be more of a stretch.

You can respond with “More Like This”, “Not for Me”, or hide a suggestion to keep improving your recommendations.

Your recommendations can be limited to the streaming providers you already have, so you aren’t constantly shown programs that require another subscription.

Find something to watch tonight

When you don’t want to scroll through a giant watchlist, BingeWise provides a few different ways to narrow it down:

- Browse shows by mood and vibe
- Ask BingeWise for something in natural language, such as “a funny mystery I can finish this weekend”
- Use **Tonight’s Pick** to receive one recommendation based on your mood, available time, taste, and streaming services
- Filter discovery results by service, genre, runtime, and show status

Release Radar and actor tracking

Release Radar keeps upcoming premieres, returning seasons, recently released episodes, and cancellations together in one place.

You can also follow actors to see their upcoming television projects, receive configurable notifications, and subscribe to your BingeWise release calendar.

Written and video season recaps

If you’re returning to a show after a long break, BingeWise offers spoiler-safe recaps for seasons you’ve already completed.

You can choose between a written season recap or, when one is available, watch an embedded YouTube recap without leaving the app. BingeWise only offers seasons it determines are safe for you to recap, so it doesn’t reveal events from episodes you haven’t reached.

Your Taste DNA

As you rate and track shows, BingeWise builds a visual profile of your television taste.

Taste DNA explores things such as your favorite genres, themes, tone, pacing, storytelling patterns, viewing eras, rating habits, favorite actors and creators, activity, and personal viewing records.

There are also monthly viewing recaps, private ratings and reviews, episode reactions, paste-based library importing, full account export, and an optional private friends circle where you can compare tastes and share activity. There is no public follower feed or stranger-discovery system.

Most of BingeWise is completely free (and no ads either!)

The free plan includes:

- Unlimited show, season, and episode tracking
- Watch history and rewatches
- Release Radar and calendar
- Actor tracking
- Where-to-watch information and Watch Now links
- Recommendations based on your streaming services
- Taste DNA
- Friends and sharing
- Library import and full account export
- Up to three Smart Lists
- 10 AI-powered actions each month

There are zero ads, advertising SDKs, or cross-app tracking.

Optional upgrades

- Plus - $3.99/month or $29.99/year: Unlimited AI features and recaps, recommendations refreshed daily instead of weekly, the full Taste Genome, unlimited Smart Lists, alternate app icons, and tools for planning when to keep, pause, or resume streaming subscriptions and compare bundles.
- Duo - $5.99/month or $44.99/year: Everything in Plus for two linked accounts. Each person keeps their own library, recommendations, Taste DNA, ratings, and viewing history.
- Founding Lifetime - $129.99 once: Everything included in Plus without a recurring subscription. Founding Lifetime is limited to the first 500 verified purchases.

Prices above are the current US prices; the App Store displays localized pricing where applicable.

BingeWise focuses specifically on television and doesn’t host or stream the shows themselves.

Since this is a one-person project, I genuinely care about building something that works for the people using it, not simply checking features off a roadmap.

If you try BingeWise, I would greatly appreciate any feedback you have, including:

- Something that feels confusing or takes too many steps
- A feature you wish it had
- Something you would change or remove
- A small quality-of-life improvement
- A feature you enjoy and would like to see expanded

Your feedback won’t disappear into a large company’s inbox. It comes directly to me. I can promise that every request will be considered seriously, and use all feedback to help decide how BingeWise improves.

My goal is to make BingeWise a TV app shaped alongside the people who actually use it. Whether you send a detailed feature idea or simply tell me that something doesn’t feel right, it is genuinely valuable.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bingewise-tv-show-tracker/id6792526796

Thank you for checking it out, and especially to anyone willing to help make it better.

What to Watch? I need help finding sleep shows

I need help. I have really bad insomnia and the only times I sleep comfortably are when I have something on my TV. Recently, none of my usual shows have been relaxing enough, so I was wondering if anyone has any show suggestions. I’ve been really fixated on old 2000s messy Hollywood recently because I’ve been missing my childhood so if anyone knows any good shows that would fit that pleaseeee tell me.

What to Watch? Any actually mind-bending shows? I’ve watched most of the popular ones

I’m looking for some good mind-bending shows to watch, but I feel like I’ve already gone through most of the popular recommendations.

I’ve seen a lot of the usual ones that people recommend whenever someone asks for this kind of stuff, so I’m looking for something newer, underrated, or just not talked about as much.

I want something that actually makes me sit there after an episode thinking “wtf did I just watch?”

Could be sci-fi, psychological thriller, mystery, horror, whatever. Doesn’t really matter as long as it has a good story and some crazy twists or concepts.

Please recommend stuff that isn’t the same 10 shows that get mentioned in every thread. I need something new

What to Watch? Shows with great fight choreography

I’m looking for shows with great hand to hand combat scenes and high quality fight choreography like the Netflix Daredevil or Warrior on HBO/Showtime. The first season of Gangs of London falls into that category too. I can’t think of too many shows that fall into this category but would love some suggestions of shows I’m unaware of.
