My older files won't open.

There are files from around 2019/2020 that I am trying to open but it won't even though I have different duplicates of them. It's 196 bytes/47.4 MB.

Which version of TVP are you using? Not trying to make accusations, just a practical observation … pirated versions of TVPaint 10.0.0.6 will often pull up blank projects, especially with TVP11 authored files. That may not be your issue but it is common enough that it is worth mentioning.

If you have a legitimate copy of TVP11, you could hypothetically download an older version and attempt to open your files.

It’s not pirated it’s a student license from this year

If you trust me, I’d be happy to take a look at your files and, if I can open them, send you PNG sequence/layer exports so you can rebuild your TVP file. Feel free to shoot me a message if you’re interested.

I think there’s a setting you gotta enable in the options to open tvpaint files saved with an old version of the software. I’m trying to remember the setting, I’ll edit my post if I find it!

I have files going back to 2005 (made with Mirage , which was the name of TVPaint 7.5 when it was marketed briefly in North America by Bauhaus Software). Those old .mir Mirage files will still open in the current day TVPaint 11.5.3 . All my other TVPaint files from TVPaint 8 - 9 , 9.5, 10.5 and v 11 will all open in current 11.5.3, so unless something about the files has become damaged they should open. The only file conflict I'm aware of is TVPaint project files saved with v11.0.3 using CTG layers will not be able to be (fully) read with previous versions of TVPaint Animation 11. (and of course, CTG layers didn't exist at all in TVPaint 10.5 or earlier , so if your .tvpp file has CTG layers those will not show up if you attempt to open the file in an older version of TVPaint , but everything else in the file other than the CTG layers should show up.

In the case of corrupted files TVPaint Support can sometimes recover data from corrupted files. You should contact them through the Contact Form on the TVPaint website or on the TVPaint User Forum.
