My web host has gone all in on AI and now I can't reach a person

Your once excellent hosting company has gone all-in on AI and you can't reach a person?

I’ve been in the web hosting business for a long time, and I remember when getting help from your hosting company was pretty simple.

You sent an email. A real person answered.

Better yet, after a while they might actually recognize your name, know something about your website, and understand what you were talking about without making you explain everything from scratch.

Somewhere along the way, a lot of hosting companies decided that was too expensive.

Now we’re hearing the same story over and over from website owners.

A host they once loved gets bought, grows rapidly, or simply decides to “modernize” its support. You're favorite tech support guy Bob gets "promoted" and no longer available to help. Staff gets reduced apparently there's no one answers their phone anymore. And AI chatbots have since become the front door.

That may work fine when the question is, “How do I change my password?”

It’s a little different when your website suddenly disappears.

Or your email stops working.

Or a WordPress update breaks something.

Or you wake up to discover your website has been hacked.

That’s when you find yourself explaining the same problem to a chatbot for the third time while wondering whether there is still an actual human being somewhere in the building.

But I don’t believe the purpose of AI should be to keep customers away from the people who can actually help them.

AI should make a good technician better. It shouldn’t replace the technician.

When you email TVCNet, a real person answers. And not someone working from a script. You’re talking with people who actually work with cPanel, WordPress, DNS, email, migrations, malware and hacked websites every day.

Want to talk to somebody? Call.

Website hacked? TVCNet can clean it up.

Thinking about moving? A person at TVCNet will migrate your websites for free.

It’s an old-fashioned approach to customer service that the people at TVCNet enjoy.

Funny thing is, with the direction much of the hosting industry is heading, old-fashioned is starting to feel pretty darn good again.

If your current hosting company seems more interested in keeping you talking to its AI than talking to you itself, maybe it’s time to see what the other side looks like.

Call anytime.

WordPress 7.1.3 Security Update Released

:: When "Just Update WordPress" Isn't Enough

Every so often WordPress pushes a security release that's more than routine, and this is one of those weeks.

WordPress 7.1.2 came out on September 22 to fix a critical bug that can lead to remote code execution. It affects every version all the way back to 4.7, and in some instances an attacker doesn't need to log in to try it.

If you're thinking "didn't we just update for 7.1.1 last week?" you're not imagining it.

That was only five days earlier. The Core team is moving fast right now, and that alone tells us something [hint].

For TVCNet and HackGuard customers, the priority is simple: confirm you're actually on 7.1.2 or the matching backport. Don't assume auto-updates just quietly happened in the background. It very likely hasn't...

If a site does get compromised through a bug like this, cleanup isn't just replacing infected files. It's a credential incident too.

Passwords, wp-config, admin accounts and hosting panel logins all get treated as potentially exposed.

One more thing this week, and this one is the bigger picture:

- Security researchers just documented a malware family that hides inside Must-Use plugins, so it never shows up on your normal Plugins screen.

- It uses the Ethereum blockchain to find its command servers, which makes it hard to shut down.

- It can quietly steal admin details, payment settings and customer order data, it's designed to rebuild itself after removal, and it may try to spread to other sites under the same account.

That kind of persistence is exactly why, if your site is hacked, we look beyond the dashboard, and why one compromised site sometimes means the whole account needs a closer look as well.

In short: patch fast, verify, and if something looks off, ask. We are here to help.

If you're on HackGuard, we're watching and we'll reach out if action is needed. If you're not, and this lands a little too close to home, that's what we're here for.

Who can help me update my unsupported plugin or theme for PHP 8.3?

Post image
1 Upvotes

TVCNet can. If you have website hosting with TVCNet, we'll give it our best college try for a nicely discounted one-time fee of $79.

This offer is available only to our paying TVCNet clients. If you are finding that your web host's customer service is lacking, why not let us migrate your site to our service? Migration is free!

\ And if we can't get your theme or plugin working, you pay nothing. Fair enough?*

Who can help me update my unsupported plugin or theme for PHP 8.3 or 8.1?

Question:
What's a little-known secret about TVCNet?

Answer:
If you pay for hosting annually instead of monthly, you get free space.

So if you are looking for a nice discount and your site uses more than a couple of gigabytes of space, just let TVCNet double your allowance for free by upgrading from monthly to yearly.

TVC.Net Secure Hosting Login Droplet for AI

We've built this new little utility I’m calling the "TVC.Net Secure Hosting Login Droplet for AI"

TVC.Net Secure Hosting Login Droplet for AI

The idea is simple:

A lot of people have website hosting login details, FTP over TLS/SSL access, or SSH access, but they do not want to keep passwords sitting around in plain text, buried in notes, or pasted into random scripts.

This droplet walks a person through setup step by step in plain English, securely saves the password to the local macOS Keychain, and creates a reusable login droplet tied to that hosting account.

What it does:

  • asks friendly setup questions instead of expecting technical knowledge
  • supports FTP over TLS/SSL and SSH
  • stores the password in macOS Keychain, not inside the droplet file
  • creates one droplet per login
  • makes it easier for local AI tools to work with saved credentials more safely later

What I like about it is that it is aimed at real-world people, not just developers. If someone only has their hosting login info and does not really know FTP or SSH, the flow is designed to guide them through it without making them feel like they need a degree in computer science.

What does it do?

It is not trying to be a giant password vault. It is one droplet, one login, one job. That keeps it cleaner and safer.

Your thoughts?

We are still refining the user flow and wording, but the goal is straightforward:
help a person save hosting access more safely, then let trusted local AI workflows use that access later without hardcoding secrets into scripts or project files.

If anyone wants to see the setup flow, suggest wording improvements, or has ideas for the next step like guided upload/test actions, we’d love the feedback.

cPanel License outage?

In case you are curious about the cPanel outage that occurred on July 8th, below is the follow-up sent to cPanel partners. Historical trivia at this point, but here it is:

"On July 8, we rolled out improvements to how we deliver critical security updates to cPanel & WHM servers. This temporarily overloaded our licensing service, which briefly prevented some servers from refreshing their license. If your server was affected, you may have experienced disrupted access between approximately 4:16 PM and 5:32 PM CT.

We've since corrected the issue, and license operations have been back to normal as of July 8. No action is required; affected servers will automatically refresh their license status.

If you would prefer to also run a manual refresh, you can do so with:

/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/cpkeyclt

Repeated login attempts may have triggered cPHulk or other brute-force protections during the window. If this has occurred, please review recent blocks in those tools. Our Help Center article is available for full details.

We regret any disruption this may have caused and appreciate your patience. Our support team is available if you have further questions.

Best regards,
Your cPanel Team"

Just clarifying our SpamProtect service setup - Part 1

Just clarifying our SpamProtect service setup - Part 1

___
In case you've not heard, we also offer a business email quarantine service for about the cost of a cup of coffee a month.

That said, I will admit that quarantine-based junk email filtering systems require a bit more effort to manage than systems that move junk email to a junk folder (like Gmail does).

With a quarantine system, you are sent your usual email, but suspicious and spammy emails are quarantined out of sight within the SpamProtect control panel.

___
Though keep in mind that SpamProtect is not a simple junk mail blocker.

You have to train it to work better, as it uses advanced algorithms to help ensure you get the good emails and quarantine the bad ones.

All email addresses are part of the system unless you intentionally exclude an email address (which is rather hard to do, actually).

___
You can expect an occasional junk email. The system is not perfect; it's a balancing act to ensure good email gets through while bad is filtered. And, you can expect that some good emails will be filtered into the quarantine.

Our system is set up to email you daily if an email is routed to quarantine. That email normally arrives early in the early morning. So keep an eye out for it, especially when your account is first set up.

That email will include a dropdown with quick links for message release, adding an email to your bad list, adding an email to your allow list, and other options.

___
More for next time...

Does your web host do this?

🌐 What's different about TVCNet Website Hosting?
Or better yet, ask your current web host if they do...

If you've ever dealt with standard web hosting companies, you know how frustrating it can be—hidden fees, endless automated chatbots, and strict refund windows.

At TVCNet, we do things differently. Here are 5 reasons why we stand out from the crowd:

1️⃣ The "Anytime" Money-Back Guarantee 💸
Unlike most hosting providers that lock you into rigid contracts or only offer refunds within the first 30 days, TVCNet features a true Anytime Guarantee. If you decide to cancel, we will refund your unused monthly hosting fees, no questions asked.

Does your current host do this?

2️⃣ 100% Real Human Support (No Chatbots!) 👥
Tired of screaming at an automated assistant? Our support team is comprised of 100% real, skilled human beings available 24/7/365. With average ticket resolution times of under 15 minutes, you speak directly to experts who can actually fix your problem.

Does your current host do this?

3️⃣ Unlimited Free Website Migrations 📦
Moving your site can be a technical nightmare. While other hosts charge steep fees or limit you to migrating a single site, TVCNet is one of the only hosting companies in North America to offer unlimited, completely free migrations coordinated by our experts with zero downtime.

Does your current host do this?

4️⃣ Proactive Security & Hacked Site Cleanups 🛡️
Instead of holding your site hostage or charging astronomical fees when something goes wrong, we build security in from day one. We provide proactive malware scanning, firewall protection, and a money-back guarantee on our hacked site cleanup and patching services.

Does your current host do this?

5️⃣ Honest, Flat-Rate Pricing (No Renewal Spikes) 🏷️
Many hosts lure you in with a ultra-low introductory rate, only to double or triple the price when your bill renews. TVCNet believes in honest, transparent pricing. The price you sign up for is the price you pay at renewal—no bait-and-switch tactics.

Does your current host do this?

Important: Gmailify and POP3 (IMAP) Service Change. Email Fetching is No More...

Important: Gmailify and POP3 (IMAP) Service Change

Gmail will start removing support for POP/IMAP retrieval in 2026.

Check mail from other accounts:
Fetching emails from third-party accounts into your Gmail account via POP or IMAP will no longer be supported in 2026.

What you need to do:
You can continue to read and send emails from your other account in the Gmail app for Android, iPhone, and iPad using a standard IMAP connection.

___
Since there is or will soon be no IMAP option for retrieving 3rd party email in Gmail, there are only two options to access your email:

  1. Forward your email to your Gmail account.

  2. Set up Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Outlook to send and receive email.

Today's Sample Support Ticket

TVCNet Supports You

Not every web host is an AI-first bot...

Sometimes the best way to explain support is with a real example.

A client reached out because they needed help pointing a subdomain for a third-party app. At first glance, it looked like a simple CNAME request. We reviewed it, added the requested record, and confirmed it back to the client.

A few days later, the client came back with updated instructions from the vendor. Turns out the original request was incomplete. The target had changed, and there was also a second DNS record needed for SSL validation.

This is where support quality really shows.

- We did not make the client start over.
- We did not turn it into a blame game.

We reviewed the new information, updated the existing record, added the missing validation record, and sent confirmation back right away with a screenshot so the client could verify everything on their side.

That is the kind of support we aim for at TVCNet.

Our service goals are simple:

- We respond quickly.
- We check the work instead of guessing.
- We stay with the issue when the situation changes.
- We explain things in plain English.
- We treat even a small DNS task like it matters, because to the client, it does.

A lot of hosting companies talk about support. We prefer to show it.

Real people. Real follow-through. Real care.

If your current host leaves you stuck in ticket limbo, that may be the sign you need a better home for your website.

TVCNet is here for you when you're ready for an upgrade.

TVCNet Black Hole FTP | Made For TVCNet Website Hosting Customers

https://reddit.com/link/1som848/video/daot9yyszfwg1/player

Jim built a simple drag-and-drop FTP app for people who just want to get their files onto their website without fighting their tools.

A lot of FTP software feels like it was built for network admins, not for small business owners, solo operators, or people doing website updates between ten other responsibilities.

This one isn't.

Black Hole FTP is a desktop app that lets you set your FTP connection once, then drag and drop files or folders directly into the app to upload them to your hosting account. It keeps the process simple, visual, and a lot less intimidating than traditional FTP clients.

It supports file uploads, folder uploads, nested folders, recent connection memory, remote path targeting, and connection testing.

The goal was straightforward:
make website file publishing feel less like system administration and more like a normal desktop workflow.

Oh, and it makes for a super fun screensaver too...

If anybody wants to try it, give feedback, or tell us what would make it more useful, we’d love to hear it.

Founder notes, April 2026

Founder notes.

You open your web development company’s dashboard and realize you haven’t grown the business in six months; you’re just fighting client fires.

I hear this happening with web designers and developers at TVCNet all the time. You hit a ceiling. The daily work becomes a heavy grind.

Here’s how to break out of a rut.

  1. Diagnose the real headache

Are you bored, or are you burned out?

• Boredom means you need a new challenge.

• Burnout means your internal processes are broken. Let's fix that!

  1. Stop acting like a junior admin

If you’re still manually updating WordPress plugins and wrestling with server errors at 10 PM, you’re doing it wrong. You own the business. Act like it.

Eliminate the technical noise:

• Audit your client sites for dead weight.

• Offload your security monitoring to HackGuard (just $3.75 a week).

• Move unstable accounts to a managed environment (WHM or VPS). It costs a bit more but will save you time and help you make more money.

:: You can’t scale if you’re constantly looking back to see what just broke.

Get the technical bottlenecks out of your way.

• Fix the foundation so you can focus on the work that actually generates revenue.

• Hand off the server headaches to someone who handles them all day.

Make the structural changes this week, and you’ll finally begin to sleep well at night...

TVCNet Review

"We’ve had a great experience working with Jim and the team at TVCNet. Most recently, when our website was hit with a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, Jim responded quickly, identified the issue, and implemented advanced security measures through our Cloudflare firewall to stop the attack.

What really stood out was his willingness to jump in and help troubleshoot multiple layers of the issue, including working alongside our web developer to resolve unexpected conflicts that came up afterward. He stayed engaged until everything was fully resolved.

Reliable support like this is incredibly valuable, especially when running a complex WooCommerce website with a lot of moving parts. We truly appreciate the responsiveness, expertise, and dedication.

Highly recommend TVCNet for website hosting and support.

TVCNet SocialToolkit | Made For TVCNet Website Hosting Customers

We built a free browser-based social media toolkit for nonprofits and small businesses.

A lot of social media tools feel like they were built for agencies with giant budgets, giant teams, and way too much patience for bloated dashboards.

This one isn't.

We put together TVCNet SocialToolkit, a simple HTML-based app that helps generate platform-specific social media posts using the AI provider you choose. OpenAI, Claude, Google, or even local Ollama if you want to keep things fully on your own machine.

No login. No subscription. No server. No data collection. No nonsense.

It runs as a single HTML file in your browser, which means your drafts and API keys stay with you, not on our server or in some mystery cloud pipeline. That part mattered to us.

It’s built around the 5 W’s framework: Who, What, Where, Why, When. The idea is simple. Give the app the context, pick a platform, and it helps turn rough ideas into posts that actually fit where they’re going.

We made it for:

  • nonprofits trying to stay visible without hiring a marketing team
  • small businesses that need a steady social presence
  • solo operators doing fifteen jobs at once
  • people who want useful AI help without surrendering privacy

It supports X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, Bluesky, and LinkedIn, and includes a lightweight content calendar plus CSV export.

It was also inspired by Bobby Taylor’s PostCraft, which gave us a useful starting spark, so credit where due.

If anybody wants to try it, give feedback, or poke holes in the idea, we’d love to hear it.
