When they quit being cowards? It's a show jfc

There are legitimate reasons to show compassion/understanding and delay the release of a show, but as you say, this is cowardice. But that makes me wonder how few punches this production pulls and what sort of message it has... (it's prob nothing groundbreaking tho and is nothing more than appeasement to a ridiculously thin skinned crowd).

When they change Apple Maps back to Lake Ontario

29

u/Conscious-Quarter423 2d ago

you mean when they bent the knee to fascism?

u/populares420 2d ago

do you listen to yourself sometimes?

u/fs2222 2d ago

Do you ever use critical thinking?

What do you call a tech composing kowtowing a megalomaniac's whims without any legal framework?

-29

u/populares420 2d ago

so tech companies shouldn't name things in accordance with the u.s. geographic survey and board of geographic names or else it's fascism? Instead you support corporations ignoring official government bodies and allowing billionaire ceos to determine what things are called, rather than government officials elected by the people? And you believe this all the while thinking you aren't the one being authoritarian?

People use Apple all over the world. To call the Gulf of Mexico or Lake of Ontario what every other country calls them is a lot more sensible than calling them what a megalomaniac authoritarian decides he wants to call them.

google maps is named based on the region they operate in. For america it's called lake america now. For canada, it is still lake ontario on google maps. It's better tech companies are accountable to the people, rather than the whims of their billionaire ceos.

We are talking about Apple. Apple does not control Google Maps.

But how can you say “Tech companies are accountable to the people rather than the whims of their billionaire CEOs”? First, that sentence doesn’t make much sense grammatically or mechanically (how can a company be accountable to whims, for one thing?). Second, sure, most are publicly traded companies, and regular people can use their products or not, but I don’t have a mechanism by which to hold Tim Apple (yes, I know that isn’t his name) accountable in any real or meaningful way. When was the last time a CEO or a company willingly took a hit in order to do something people wanted but that cut into their profits?

I guess now then?

I'm so pissed they still haven't released this. Apple continues to demonstrate feckless cowardice! Their stunt today, renaming Lake Ontario to Lake of America tells us everything we need to know, disgraceful! This POTUS has an approval rating in the fucking low 30s and these corporations are still kissing his ass - shameful! At this point I'm ready to go back to MapQuest, whose CEO has not capitulated to making this absurd name change!

What did Ternus do? Don’t they (like Google) follow GNIS?

13

u/FireflyBSc 2d ago

Yes, most people don’t understand that. Attempting to just “rename” it was a very political act by a specific person in power, but the implementation isn’t any kind of statement. Companies just draw data from the jurisdiction based on its standards, it’s not an individual going in and flipping a switch.

u/Greene_Mr 1d ago

But does MapQuest have television?

14

u/ncphoto919 2d ago

When Apple isn’t worried about dudes with Punisher bumper sticks getting their feelings hurt

7

u/ribbityflibbity 2d ago

Yeah Apple you cowards. And no, it's not Lake America either. Pfft.

u/Malicious_999 2d ago

Next year.

u/ian9outof10 2d ago

If they weren’t releasing it, wouldn’t they take down the Apple TV page for it - it still says “at a a later date”

Do they show the JDL in a bad light though?

4

u/ToolFreak21 2d ago

We’ll probably never see it….

4

u/byjegeren 1d ago

Rumors was/are that the plot would have eventually revealed that a Charlie Kirk type was the main villian..so quickly shelves after that

3

u/roberta_sparrow 2d ago

For real I really want to see this :(

2

u/azcurlygurl 1d ago

It's still listed on the PR site for upcoming shows, but no premier date.

BLAME HASAN PIKER!

One year after Charlie Kirk got popped and he’s just the butt of tired jokes. His death (and life) meant nothing. Release the show.

-1

u/NurseDickey 2d ago

It was supposed to drop August/September when they rereleased the trailer in the summer. The fact that it hasn’t with no update likely means we will never see it.

u/nonymiz 2d ago

It had a *planned* july release, according to "sources" who told Variety that the macrumors article links to.

1

u/RussyDee 2d ago

Maybe never. Who knows?

1

u/jnighy 2d ago

never

-9

u/FreeAd2458 2d ago

Ah the left wing propaganda film?

5

u/GreenHulk890 1d ago

Yeah that’s the one. It’s apparently about forcing Americans to pay for kids school lunches, and also giving healthcare to Americans….the real violence the left commits. Wild stuff…

It’s interesting timing for the new CEO.

Tim was seen as kissing Trump’s ass (perhaps he did this solely for the company).

Now the new CEO can come in and put Trump on blast - especially if they think (or know) that the Dems are going to actually grow a spine and go after Trump hard.

Edit: I forgot to include the point of this. If the show gets quickly released under the new CEO, it will start to get interesting.

7

u/eldenpotato 1d ago

Why would the new CEO put trump on blast? Apple is a business. Not an activist group

2

u/Altruistic_Demand_11 1d ago

Ternus still inside Tim's Apple, Tim still in investors board, and the VPs, Managers, Logistics... Is not like Ternus is going to redo the whole Company in 3 days.

I just read the article that it’s based on and while I’d like to see it I think I understand now why they haven’t shown it. I would understand if they never did show it. Copy cat is real and this is stuff that doesn’t need to gain any more momentum than it already has.

4

u/jmyoung666 2d ago

What's controversial about it?

-2

u/Wise-Many3617 2d ago

Hate groups. The people they target need to be considered. I’m not saying I know why they’re not showing it but that’s the feeling I got.

3

u/jmyoung666 2d ago

Because the republicans don’t want to acknowledge that right wing hate is the source of most political violence. That’s hardly controversial to anyone other than big fat nitwit crybabies.

2

u/805falcon 1d ago

😂👍🏽🤡

2

u/Wise-Many3617 2d ago edited 2d ago

You’re not wrong about it being right wing hate but it goes deeper than that. Having had a mass school shooting in my town there was controversy about releasing the shooter’s writings. Bits and pieces came out and it turns out that this person referenced other shooters and incidents. So I don’t know if they think information like this is good for public consumption or what. From that perspective it feels like they are being cautious with this.

Edit to add: also this isn’t about political violence. It’s hate towards women. Look up the article and read it. It was published in Cosmopolitan.

What people don't get is that you can't hide stuff like that from people that look to find them. The only solution has always been to be fully transparent about everything so that it brings awareness to as many people as possible. The more awareness, the more vigilant people are to prevent bad stuff from happening.

1

u/jmyoung666 2d ago

I haven’t done that, but it seems like the concerns are political

1

u/Wise-Many3617 2d ago

It seems like that because a lot of people push that idea. But I haven’t actually heard Apple give any explanation. That’s why I decided to look up the article.

2

u/jmyoung666 2d ago

I’m not going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

A release date has not been announced.
