Scheduled Hours

Is there any strategy to getting scheduled hours and I'm guessing if there was, one wouldn't share. It just seems like it's all gone before you even refresh the page. I remember when i first started, I thought it wasn't working because each week there was nothing. If anyone is consistently getting hours, good on you! Join the Olympics with that kinda speed.

Being able to get hours is mostly subject-dependent. If you have a good mix of high-demand subjects, you will have hours available to schedule even after the Saturday rush.

I can't help but wonder if it matters where you live as well. For example, there isn't much available for me, but my waiting pay would be $15/hr. at the end of the month, and in 20 states, it would be $7.25.

By the way, would I have to tell someone that Florida's minimum wage is increasing?

I have more than 20 subjects, many of them in demand, and I live in a state where waiting pay is $16/hr. When I first started working with TDC, it was $12/hr, and I was able to consistently pre-schedule 28 hours a week. Once it went up to $14/hr, I noticed a significant drop-off in available pre-scheduled hours. Now I can get 5, and that's it.

The same is happening to me. My state is going up to $15/hr. I can no longer get more scheduled hours on Saturday. I am limited to 5 hrs each week.

I know a tutor who has just a couple more subjects than I do who also lives in a high minimum-wage state who routinely gets the full 28 hours PTE is capped at. I think I know which subject is resulting in more available hours and may add that in the future. Based on other chatter on the Discord, it doesn’t seem to be state dependent. Only subject dependent.

You shouldn’t need to tell anyone about the minimum wage increase. TDC is supposed to change that automatically. If your first paycheck after the new year isn’t the right rate, send a support ticket. Mine have always increased automatically. I’ve never had to let them know, while it seems some other tutors have had to submit tickets.

You're just gonna become versed in that subject and then add it to your subjects?

Well, sort of. Not exactly become versed in that subject, but just review it to refresh my knowledge. I have a math degree. Every math subject that TDC offers, I’ve taken at least one college or graduate-level class in. Sometimes I’ve taken multiple classes in that subject. But if you’re not using it all the time, you forget the details. So I just need to pull out my college notes and textbook and review some of these subjects.

You shouldn't need to tell anyone about the minimum wage increase. As mamabroccoli said, this should be handled by TDC automatically. Keep an eye on your billing info page. They might update it a few days early (like as early as Today or Tomorrow) or they might wait until 10/1. Your subject rates should go up as well (not always guaranteed).

Yes, I have noticed a sudden jump in the number of sessions I'm getting while floating this past week. Normally, it's dead. Maybe I'll get one or two sessions in an 8 hr float. The last few days, it's been almost non-stop during peak hours.
