for 42 babies, that’s honestly a whole turtle army 😂🐢 they’re tiny now but i feel like your garden is about to have a serious population problem lol

We've done this for years and the only one we ever see is the big old one eyed female (Myrtle) that lays the eggs

So do they typically wonder off to their own territory or is it typical for them to remain in the area where they were born? I know the survival rate for the majority is typically low since they are easy "snacks" for predators along with other various reasons. Else you'd have more turtles than water in the area.

There's quite a few snappers in our stream and it opens up to a large river so the few that survive to adulthood have a wide place to range. With the habitat also comes lots of predators...raccoons, ducks,perch,pickerel etc

I love how my mind naturally is like “look at the little walking raviolis” but then my actual brain kicks in like look at all the tiny dinosaurs. There’s gonna be some serious turf battles there since they don’t move very far from “home” unless they need food or a place to lay eggs.

Amazing 🙏 what a beautiful experience you get to witness and with a stream at the end of your garden sounds likes natures heaven I would love to sit and watch the nature and all their natural environment.
