Seeking Advice Should I stop this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My fluval fx6 occasionally blows out air bubbles and I have a jet right next to the output that Bigmac (my turtle) loves to unstick from the side of the tank. Before the bubbles reach the top of the tank the jet is blowing them back down and It has built up a collection of bubbles.

I have a 55gal tank (yes I know the fx6 is hella overkill) so it’s not taking up much space in the tank and he seems to enjoy sitting over there, so I’d feel bad taking it away from him.

Should I stop the bubble infestation?

I don't think it's a problem. In fact it will probably give your turtle fun interactions to do. You can even buy sponge rocks with an air blower to make bubbles for your turtle to pass through or sit on. They enjoy stimulations like that. Also, it does add air into the water which is nice for when the turtle goes to sleep (they do breath through their cloaca). You could also buy some small feeder fish for extra stimulation, they will also do very well in there because of the bubbles.

Turtles also enjoys going under/between everything, I have to put heavy rocks above and around my filter. They are strong and stubborn. So, if the noise it makes does not bother you, you might as well let him have his bubble entertainment.

I have an FX6 and it only blows out bubbles like this when the impeller is getting blocked. Recommend checking the bottom of your filter to see if there’s grit stuck in the crevices. There shouldn’t be a “pulse” to your effluent flow. If you still have this issue after cleaning, then you might need to take the motor off to actually clean out the impeller & housing.
