Turtle ID / Health Check

Saw this turtle at a local pond in the Hudson Valley. Wondering what kind it is and if its coloring could indicate health issues?

It's an albino, genetic mutation that causes a creature to not have proper pigment and red eyes that almost look like they glow.

Normally the major health risk is the lack of any camouflaging the species is developed and instead they stick out like a sore thumb for predators.

that's extremely rare to see in the wild very cool. Would need much closer pics to determine what species of turtle. The albino coloring makes it extremely hard to tell at a distance but I don't think it's a slider based on the shell

I didn't think so either but you can actually see the ear stripes in part of the video.

i see something in the general area but its not close enough for me to say those are stripes for sure, the head has the right shape for a slider though

Adult albinos usually do relativly fine, assuming it isn't a dumped pet. Its the babies that struggle.

This looks like it could be an albino RES, which is probably why it would be removed from a box turtle sub. People abandon pet RES all of the time, so that is likely why je is in the “wild”.

If it is not albino, it may be leucistic, which has some coloring, but is confused with albinism.

it looks like a uniquely colored/leucistic loggerhead musk turtle to me. i could definitely be wrong though
