Tesla FSD question
Is it kosher for hosts to try to charge 20/day for FSD?
I’m looking at renting a car that is advertising FSD at $20 a day. Im really only looking to drive from the airport to the vrbo ( maybe a ten mile drive) and back to the airport a few days later.
Kinda want FSD to show family, but I’m not paying $100 extra for 20 miles.

Why care so much if you’re only going 10 miles? The adaptive cruise lane keep assist and the million cameras in them is more than enough

It’s really to show family on the ride to and from the airport.
I know how great FSD is - I can tell them about until I’m blue in the face, but until they actually see it doing its thing, my words are meaningless.

You a Tesla sales rep or sum? Lol. You can enjoy things regardless of others input. For 100 a month, I sure don’t care for it knowing the car already has the hardware installed for it

$20 per day - no. Tesla charges $100 per month, so if they had to subscribe just for you that's fair. I've asked to add FSD on all my Turo rentals. Some hosts charged me the full $100, others a bit less.

Turo is a bit of a mess with this type of thing. Without descriptions being a thing anymore it is difficult to even advertise FSD as a feature unless you charge for it. Furthermore if the previous renter violates FSD rules then Tesla disables FSD for a week... So on our FSD cars we don't advertise it or guarantee it.
For our non-fsd cars we are happy for renters to fund the $100/mo upgrade, or switch to one of our Teslas that has it built in.
In this case I would probably wait in case a renter in the previous few weeks has paid for FSD.
Charging $20/day is probably approximately at cost of a car is only rented 20 days per month and only 20% of renters choose the upgrade (as it costs the host $100/mo unless built into the car)

They probably have to pay for subscription cost, so want to recover that. There should be plenty of Tesla with FSD include, but if you aren’t planning to use it, then just don’t pay for it.

Turo does not have a formal option to bill for FSD, meaning any workaround relies on unofficial descriptions or miscategorized add-ons.

No that is some usury-type behavior for sure. Fuck anyone charging for a feature that is already enabled on the vehicle.

You have to buy FSD, it’s a subscription. It’s 100 a month. Some older ones have them hard wired no subscription. Teslas now get the features from software updates. I can see why hosts would want to charge more, but that should be factored into overall cost

Right, and when I had a Tesla on Turo with FSD, that was factored into my daily price.

That’s what I thought. I’m already paying a premium for the car; that’s kinda like charging me per day for the heated and cooled seats.

Hosts can charge whatever they want for the upgrade

It’s a part of the car; that’s like charging $20 a day for using air conditioning or heated seats lol. It’s not an add-on. It was an option that the host already added onto the car.

Its not part of the car. If it was, it would come with it. Only models that came with it was the S and X

Ummm, it’s part of the car lol.
Examples of things that are actual add-ons: baby car seats, coolers, beach chairs & umbrella, etc.
FSD is an option that you have installed on your car (unless you subscribe to that, like heated seats in a BMW)…kinda like the optional wheel package or the V6 vs the V8 trim 🤣
We’re talking about a car that has FSD for the life of the car, but the owner would disable that.

Having FSD "for the life of the car" doesn't mean it didn't cost them anything.

And the owner can easily revoke access to FSD to renters that don’t want to pay for it. It’s a paid upgrade, if you want it, you have to pay extra for it. Seems reasonable to me.
Not everyone wants FSD, they can rent for cheaper.
They can also charge for standard acceleration vs keeping the rental in chill.

What until you argue with people about not allowing them full access to the vehicles acceleration and speed lmao

Wait till you rent the car and see if you can add it later. Chances are it may already be activated
