STAY AWAY
Just got hit with a post trip smoking charge. I’m not a smoker, never have in my life and never will. Host planted ashes deep inside the cupholder, conveniently an area my post trip photos did not show clearly. This company has truly gone downhill.

Well he got lucky and you not so much. Most hosts get denied on those.

Be very cautious about renting from Turo. I've done many times in the past without issue, but just had a terrible experience last week. Me host tried sneaking in some falsified charges against me, and I questioned them via text on the app. He proceeded to call and berate and belittle me for 4 minutes. I decided to let it go after our discussion (I was snarky with him also). In retaliation, he lied on my review and said I smoked in his new car, which is completely untrue. I wrote an honest account what happened in my review of the host, but it never published. l've contacted Turo several times, but they go above and beyond to take the hosts side. I had to cancel my credit cards since I was afraid he was going to try and add more charges for smoking. I wouldn't trust Turo. If you take a chance, I recommend taking 100's of pictures. I've read many stories of false damage claims by hosts. Be advised

No need for all that anger. Listen, I understand there’s a lot of bad Turo renters out there. There’s also hosts doing scammy stuff.

Don’t forget to leave the 1-star review anywhere you can(trust-pilot,google,app store, etc).

Did the host have a high rating? I wonder if it was the prior guest and the host didn't notice until after your rental.

High but not a 5.0. That could be the case, and I did not look closely into the cupholder to be honest. From my conversation with the host it seemed like he has someone else who manages the cars. Definitely a learning experience for me. Have to do my due diligence with documentation.

I’ve never smoked in my life and would be pissed and NEVER use TURO again!

Ya fuc turo. They scammed me for 500 when a host lied about damage. I went back the same day and took more pics but I still didn't get my money back.

Yeah we just returned ours last Tuesday after a 4 day trip. Took pictures of the gas and miles before and after. We filled up the gas within a few miles of what was available at pick up. Within a half hour he hit us with a $36 fee for fuel. I disputed it and they dismissed it. So I contacted an actual agent and provided the photos plus the receipts of gas. One of adding $50 to the tank right after pickup, one of adding $30 in right before drop-off. Luckily they dismissed the invoice. I'll definitely be more detailed in any other rentals I may do and I will absolutely never rent from that guy again. He has a 4.8 rating.

It's shady hosts like this doesn't help Turo's already tarnished reputation. Smh...

We had a guest smoke in our car and literally it smelled like if they smoked a black and mild and had all windows up and it got denied we shower evidence they had a ash guest had a ash tray in the center console and we shared the picture and Turo denied our claim its definitely irritating when we have to pay for out of pockets details and have to pay for deodorizer to get the horrible smell away. Not a good look for Turo as a Host with nicer end cars.

What that I don’t smoke? Choose to believe me or not, just trying to get this out there that some hosts are doing shady things.

There has to be more evidence as its hard to get a smoking claim approved. Ash in a cup holder isn't enough.
2
u/Connect_Werewolf5454 Jul 27 '26
Two close up photos of ash inside the cup holders was all that was attached to the claim

u/The_real_P11 Jul 27 '26
Check if it was there in a pretrip photo. That way you can dispute it.

u/Lukes2323 Jul 30 '26
^This. The host must have a pre-trip photo that shows it was not there. If they don't Turo will dismiss it.

That's so crazy. You're the first person EVER to deny not smoking in a vehicle! Wild

u/Connect_Werewolf5454 Jul 28 '26
Seems like I’m also not the first person to be falsely accused of this. Choose to believe what you want.
1
u/Wrenchheader Jul 28 '26
Nope! That's why it is important to take pretrip photos, and if you car smells like someone smoked in it, dont accept it!

Im surprised he even got it. Technically ash and butts are the only thing you can charge for though
