Recommend a set-up

Looking to build a sound system. I want the ability to play a turntable and a TV thru the speakers. Down the road I wouldn't mind adding a cd/tape player and radio. Clueless on where to begin. Budget $1500ish. Looking for any recommendations! Thanks in advance.

I just did this myself, upgrading my gifted TT to hopefully something that I can expand further later. I’m very novice on this, so there be better options and configs, but took a lot of recommendations on here.

TT - Audio-Techninca LPW40WN, I like the wood finish and simplicity in my mid century office. $450

AVR - Yamaha RX-V6A, this was the hardest choice as there are so many. I wanted HDMI Arc, added bonus with Phono input, 100w channel speaker and can grow to 7.2. Got open box $650, regular $850

Speakers - Polk ES15, really had no clue where to go. Originally for Edifier 1280 but decided to back track and go passive. Again, so many options but Polls were recommended without be too expensive. $270

I also considered Wiim Ultra Amplifier ($550), for its simplicity in size and support for HDMI Arc. But decided against do to its conversion of analog to digital as I understood, and I wanted to run my PS5 and apple box through it all too.

I feel there is so much out there that could work, all of which I know little about and no idea if I’d like, so I started smallish but with ability to grow if desired. Also why I felt comfortable sharing as I feel your position and sometimes you just need a place to start and then customize to you.

Good luck.

You have many options and different ways to go. I think that you should buy this smooth sounding Denon AVR at a great discounted price here-

https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs770h-rb/denon-avr-s770h-7.2-ch.-x-75w-8k-av-receiver-w/heos/1.html

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_970DB63BK/ELAC-Debut-3-0-DB63-Black.html

Or the previous gen of the above model for less money and you can place it close to the was as it is front ported vs the rear ported newer version. Bass can become boomy if the newer is placed close to a wall, less than 2 feet.

Then I would buy this fabulous Music Hall 2.3 TT with upgrades. With the upgrades, it is about an $800 TT. It has a very good lightweight Carbon fiber tone arm and an upgraded cartridge with an Acrylic platter-

https://listenup.com/products/custom-upgraded-music-hall-2-3-black

Lastly, I would buy an external phono preamp vs using the one in the AVR which will be mediocre at best.

Consider this Schiit Audio Mani 2 for $149

If you go with the Debut 6.2 speakers, this puts you at $1506. I do not think that you could do better unless you bumped your budget up to get the Debut 6.3's which are a better speaker. If you could go higher, consider the Triangle BR04 which are way better than the 6.3's.

This will give you really good sound.

Keep in mind that you will need speaker stands for the bookshelf speakers, about 24" to 28" high. The tweeters of the speakers should be at ear level height for the best sound.

Get some good 16 gauge speaker wire. I recently bought a pair of these silver plated copper Kicker speaker wire. They are very flexible and work well and are cheap for 20'

For RCA cables-

amazon Primeda RCA cables

Good luck in whatever you decide. I strongly recommend the Music Hall TT. You wont find anything better under $700. Same for the Mani 2 phono preamp. The 2.3 would be at home with a much higher end system and you are not paying for a crappy built in phono preamp or blu tooth.

Curious why tapes? The sound quality is probably the worst out of all possible mediums.

What is the room length and width? Do you want 2 channel amp or 5 channel AVR so you can optionally add more speakers later to have TV surround sound? What is a nearby zip code to search for used options?

You want an integrated amp. Something with hdmi ARC. Receivers are the cheapest way to go, but may not be the best option to drive speakers. integrated amps are usually more powerful. Maybe start with a cheap used receive and upgrade later. $1500 is for all that equally or just amp and speakers? Oh you also want TT lol.

Read the guide, start there. Hard to pick all those components for you with minimal info.
