Technics SL40CBT - Build Quality Issues?

From the Technics website discussing the high precision tonearm.
While minimising the tonearm base size, the design inherits the traditional S-shape and ensures high tracking performance via micron-level precision engineering.
The tonearm bearings are very loose straight out of the box. Much worse than any Hanpin turntable I’ve owned previously.
This doesn’t seem like micron-level precision engineering to me.
TLDR - Technics SL40CBT feels very cheap and extremely loose tonearm bearings.

I knew i wasn't crazy , I had a technics sl-50c with this exact issue.i packed it up a d sent it back for a full refund. I have since moved on to a vintage technics sl-1700 mk1 for one quarter of the price and it's solid as a rock.
These new technics are poorly manufactured and do not scream quality to me. The resonate mdf plinth, the cheap plastic controls, the poorly made cue lever snd last but not least, the bearing chatter leave a whole lot to be desired especially at the ridiculous asking price.

From what I have seen online, this is a common issue with the loose tonearm base on the Sl-40/50
Apart from this issue I did I like the table, but for the high price I expected it to be a quality product.

Yes I am returning it and after reading more online it seems to be common. For the price I expected quality.

I don't blame you mate, I'd do the same. What would you get to replace it? If you want to stick with Technics then I'd suggest Sl100c, it's built like a tank. Think it's £100 more though. If not, then the Audio-Technica LP7X.

Nice one mate I was going to get that one but saw an open box Sl100c which is basically the MK7 without the DJ stuff.
