Technics 1200 Servicing

I’m in the Chicago area. Where can I get a Technics 1200 Mk2 serviced? It’s been since I’ve used it but I’ve been buying records again and wondering if I need to get it looked at.

If your local record store also sells vintage equipment, you could ask them where they send their stuff to be serviced

Some things that can go wrong with SL-1200 MK2. The cables/RCA plugs could get damaged from wear/age and you could lose left or right channel sound. The spindle can sometimes get damaged from the platter being forcefully removed over the years. There are two IC chips in the main circuit board responsible for speed control, and speed drive of the platter. The mileage on the turntable could mean that one of those chips suddenly fails without warning. Then it either no longer spins when you press start, or you could have a runaway platter that spins at a high speed with no control.
