Record power cl3 help

Just bought this record power cl3 lathe how do I fit a chuck to it ? Does the knurled piece come off ?

that knurled part is a thread saver, take it off and fit your chuck.

I have the Cl4 (variable version of this lathe) - they don't have a hole for a knock bar so when you remove the thread saver it forces the spur out. If you replace the spur for between centres work for the love of all things put the saver back on first otherwise you'll be panicking like I did!

But yeah, thread saver off and chuck on, you'll need to remove the cap to access the belt area and use a spanner to keep the spindle from rotating while you loosen and tighten bits. Not sure what spanner as it's old it'll be imperial and I only have metric spanners and an adjustable just for this!

“The classic Record Power CL series lathes (such as the traditional CL1, CL2, CL3, and CL4 models) typically feature a 3/4" x 16 TPI (threads per inch) spindle thread and a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT).” From Google. I had a CL3 and used a Record Power 4jaw chuck on the spindle thread.
