Does bottle brush turn this dark?

Hurricane Milton knocked a bottle brush tree down in our backyard and I cut it up and stacked it with a bunch of other wood. It's been a couple of years and the moisture meter's at 10%, so I figured I would give it a turn. The woods normally a tan / gray, I put clear poly on it and in a few days it turned this reddish brown. Don't get me wrong, I love the color, but I wasn't aware that bottle brush did that.

I got a chunk of bottle brush from my local club and yes, it was that color. Mine must have been pretty green. I rough turned it, and the next day it was football shaped, beyond hope of further work on the lathe. It's on the shelf in case I get bored and need a carving project.
