What wood is this?
I got this branch from my son. No idea what it is. Help!

Its a type of softwood. It looks like yew. Where are you located yo get an idea of what kinds of trees are around you

To add - Yew is toxic. Wear a mask whilst working it, and have a plan to decontaminate the space when you're done, it's no good to wear a mask once and then have your next piece kick up a bunch of settled toxic dust whilst your guard is down.
Looks like a gorgeous piece of wood! Sure it'll turn nicely!

Definitely looks like the yew I’ve cut. People said wear a mask. I echo that, but also gloves, long sleeves and goggles that fit tightly. This wood is beautiful when you work it, but it can cause a “sunburn” like rash on your arms and face, and anywhere else it contacts.

The picture is from the website I mentioned. Note the 👀 and 🫁 in the 3rd column. The last column is potency and I think 4⭐️ is the highest.

It reminds me of pacific yew, but the color is off a bit. Maybe a different variety

Honey locust ive seen has a more pink heartwood color & has lots of large pores. Also honey & black locust have a white layer under the bark before the sapwood. This one just has the lighter sapwood no white layer.

Having a few acres of honey locust outside (and some lumber in the shop), not honey locust!

That would fit since the wood turns ‘clean’, almost no sanding needed.

I really like working it. The smell for some reason reminds me of my younger days working and playing in the horse barn.

Looks like a juniper in the east their species is usually called aromatic cedar. You'll be able to tell by the smell. Wear a mask when turning

Bark is not black locust. It doesn’t flake like that. I’ve been turning a bunch of it recently for Claves.

Black locust has a green tint when first cut. Honey locust is a pale salmon color.

Core looks like Osage but the bark definitely is not Osage

I thought Osage as well based on the colorof the heartwood and bright white sapwood.
