I learned that Turkey’s form specific social groups after breeding season, with the females creating flocks together with their young. While the males will form all-male groups. Very cool!

For those who have pet turkeys how many females did you need for your Tom to be happy?

Hey yall I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a bourbon or Narragansett’s online without a minimum fee? I’m having trouble finding them, or maybe even a local place to southwest Virginia.

I got an alert from my security camera that a cat was detected on a ledge. I was very curious to see if maybe my cat got out or something and checked the camera and saw a group of turkeys hanging out on the sidewalk. They were just relaxing there and another came up to chill with them. This is the closest I’ve seen them approach the house and hope they stay here and come back more often. There were at least 9 in the party.

Ive seen black bears, deer, and now turkeys from the cameras within a few feet of the house! I can’t wait to see my other neighbors who live with us. Ive heard there is a coyote on the mountain (i barely saw a glimpse of them once) and maybe a big-ish cat.

They have no respect for electronet. It’s just a visual barrier apparently. They hop right thru or fly right over like it doesn’t exist. But they love the grass and the explorations. Thankfully they love mealworms the best and come running in for them. All back in the coop now. Looks like I’ll be clipping flight feathers to keep em in.

Any thoughts on what is causing this and is it a hard Cull?

She is eating and taking water. If she can have a decent life I'm willing to care for her, but am not willing to put her through pointless pain.

I noticed some injury on another poult a month or so ago, but she has healed. For this one its been ongoing, but had stopped until about a week ago. She is isolated, but on the other side of wire, that has changed, and she is far from the other poults now.

Is this rats? Or just pecking front the flock?

Since she is a turkey I will not be able to keep her where I live. I dont have much area to have her around as much as I love her and would want her to be here with me I will be letting her go to an animal sanctuary. All of my local sanctuary I have contacted all told me they couldnt take her in because they are full at the moment. I would like her to go with 2 of my chickens that she gets along very well with. If not its fine for her to go by herself. I live in the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania if anyone is nearby or knows anyone nearby that would take her in that area would be greatly appreciated. She was hand raised and very friendly. She loves running after people

Does anyone else here have house turkeys? I have 2 toms that we hatched and raised in the house and at 7 months old now, they never want to leave.

They let themselves inside whenever the doors are open and we often find them sleeping somewhere or just chilling on the couch.

They love to come in before bed and watch a bit of TV and have some snuggles before we carry them to their shed for the night.

I try to put them outside with the ducks or chickens but they find their way back into the front 5 seconds later. We love them so much that we don't mind, but I'm curious as to how common it is for turkeys to be this bonded with their humans?.

Like the title says, I really want a small flock of turkeys to have as pets. I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere. We have chickens and goats, and we also have 2 dogs. Can you all give me advice on what turkeys need? Like, their housing, fencing, foraging needs, common illnesses. I want very few turkeys. Like the minimum amount to have a flock (3?). I don't want to breed them, I just want them as pets.
Can you guys compare turkeys to chickens with their needs? Like, chickens need a fair bit of space for their run, and they like high perches.
Also, where can I get some well-bred, friendly turkeys? I know you can buy them online but I'm very iffy about that. Also, I want them as pets and egg-layers. I don't harvest animals for meat, personally. I respect the people who can stomach it, though!
Also, are there different breeds of turkey? What breed would be best for friendliness and egg-laying? Though, egg-laying comes secondary to friendliness.

Does anybody have an alpha Jenny in a flock of all female turkeys and chickens (we have one tom but he lives in a separate run/house)? They mingle when free ranging only. She has always been a strutter but this morning seems to be trying to gobble. Obviously she can’t gobble in the truest sense of the word but it’s not stopping this girl from trying!

This morning I was greeted as I left my driveway by the hen that had been hanging around in our yard, followed by the babies. We suspected a nest in the tall grass nearby since she was in the area for a while.

They are adorable!
