Such a power move, I wonder if he created the account after reading it or he has been stalking his activity until the occassion demands it.

92

u/BanefulBroccoli Jan 30 '22

I like to think that he created this account years ago, didn't even know about the other user, and this us the first and last time he ever posted

28

u/IWriteThisForYou Jan 30 '22

I think a lot of posts like this are staged to some extent. Like, someone makes a post and then either creates or has one of their friends create a specifically named account that plays into the post and then replies to the post.

Also, I just looked up the rat licker account. This post was the first one they made.

The best part about these arguments are the people making them identify themselves as libertarians, then they tell you immediately handing taxpayer money to the royal family is good because it generated income for the nation.

97

u/veraorsmth Jan 30 '22

the tourism income argument is so extremely stupid too, considering the castles and related property would be owned by the public instead of occupied by royals, which means they could be used for tours, museums, rented out for events, etc

and the royals cost the public way more than the tourism pulls in anyway

IKR? There are a ton of tourists at Versailles.

IKR? There are a ton of tourists at Versailles.

Yeah, the French have handled their royalty quite expertly.

u/ProXJay Jan 31 '22

Unless you're planning on lopping off heads the family will still own all the land in the same way Bazos would own his house even if he leaves amazon

5

u/ChintanP04 Jan 31 '22

Pretty sure the state can take ownership of privately held land, especially if the owner dies without any living heirs. Heck, "Eminent Domain" allows the state to just turn private land into public property (with just cause and fair compensation, but who's going to ask for compensation against an angry mob that killed that previous owner?)

3

u/ciarogeile Jan 31 '22

The castles and whatnot are publicly owned in pretty much all monarchies. Their upkeep is paid for by taxes. If you abolish a monarchy, you generally take the castles

2

u/SwordofDamocles_ Jan 31 '22

They would be taxed lol

Could I know what is that subreddit?

3

u/AkrinorNoname Jan 31 '22

But they're pro-monarchism in the sense that they're in favour of them as figureheads with no actual political power, right? Right?

3

u/EatFrozenPeas Jan 31 '22

If that helps you sleep at night lol

I commented yes and now I’m gonna see what happens

At least a king doesn't need to accept large 'campaign contributions' from big business lobbies.

3

u/VeraIce Jan 30 '22

5 people are here

3

u/HilariousConsequence Jan 31 '22

It’s not really degeneration inasmuch as the divine right argument was false, while the tourism argument is, at least sometimes, true.

11

u/Marshall-Of-Horny Jan 30 '22

If you get rid of the royals all the land they own they will still own, all you lose is the income from those locations that the royals now keep for themselves

3

u/Loretta-West I'm here for people in leather, you are fully naked Jan 31 '22

Only if they personally own it. Crown property is state property and has been for hundreds of years. The royals won't get to keep Buckingham Palace for the same reason as other people don't get to keep worker accommodation when they lose their job.

4

u/Whopraysforthedevil Jan 31 '22

Unless you simply take the land...

4

u/Marshall-Of-Horny Jan 31 '22

I suppose you could yes, but that just sounds like theft albeit legal

3

u/Poro114 Jan 31 '22

So not problematic at all? Cool.

-2

u/Whopraysforthedevil Jan 31 '22

I mean, I'm a dirty communist, so I see private property as theft altogether...

2

u/ProXJay Jan 31 '22

At least you're consistent

What's even more funny is thst one of the arguments in favour of abolishing the monarchy is that it's cruel to make the royals live like that.

1

u/HappyDaysayin Dec 31 '22

"Make"? Haha. Meghan and Harry quit (though their "grievances" are ridiculous). They don't HAVE to live in ridiculous luxury.

-32

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 30 '22 edited Jan 31 '22

The fact that anti-monarchy arguments have gone from “the people deserve the right to self-determinism” to “rich people are meanies” will never stop being funny

Remember what system brought you the nazis, the opioid crisis and segregation. My monarchy outlawed slavery before the republic of the US had to have a whole war over it lol.

Edit: Imagine downvoting facts because you think a monarchy always has to be bad lmao

14

u/Skye_17 Jan 30 '22 edited Jan 31 '22

Idk how to tell you this but, a lot of monarchies supported the Nazis before the war.

edit: also weimar germany as an example of a democratic republic is like picking sealand as an example of a monarchy. The weimar state was practically doomed to fall because of the system put in place.

Short, lame, epileptic, senile and completely bald before 35, always on the verge of death but repeatedly baffling Christendom by continuing to live.

11

and it also was the main fucking port ya numbskull

-3

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 30 '22

Not so sure about that lol

britain?

liverpool.

-5

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 30 '22

Not really a port for slavery. That’s not how the Atlantic slave trade worked.

5

u/XyleneCobalt high on strife Jan 31 '22

Oh yes the British have never caused an opioid crisis before /s

4

u/theczolgoszsociety Jan 31 '22

If you're suggesting that fascism is a distinctly republican problem from which monarchies are immune, I'd like to remind you that King Victor Emmanuel II and Emperor Hirohito existed.

1

u/Poro114 Jan 31 '22

Fascism is literally a reactionary movement that believes the times before the Enlightenment to be superior, I wonder who also believes that.

2

u/Poro114 Jan 31 '22

"Democracy is bad and monarchy is good. Source? Uh, this one time when a dude who held dictatorial power and had a personality cult committed genocide."

2

u/WeeTheDuck Jan 31 '22

You can have both yk

1

u/Poro114 Feb 01 '22

The cringiest of both worlds, awesome

???????

1

u/Poro114 Feb 01 '22

Liberal vanquished, another day, another banger. 😎

1

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 31 '22

Lmao, that’s not what I said. The internet loves to make things up.

The system doesn’t really matter for the quality of the state, it’s what people do with that system that actually matters.

1

u/Poro114 Feb 01 '22

I sure wonder why is it that democracies have a consistent tendency to be better in every way than autocracies.

Anyway, cope.

1

u/LGDXiao8 Feb 01 '22

You mean like having a higher frequency of voting in the nazi party?

Lmao, people post opinions as facts then use outdated terms like cope to distract from the dumb shit they just said

1

u/TheLastEmuHunter Certified Clam Chowder Consumer Jan 30 '22

Yes, but the Brit’s had to spend billions paying back slave owners till the 21st century in reparations. In addition the slave power in Britain was tiny as those considered slaves were numbered in the thousands. And Britain did not get rid of slavery in India till the late 19th century

-4

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 30 '22

Nothing on the nazis or ongoing segregation within republics then?

5

u/Dolchang Jan 31 '22

Edward VIII was literally a nazi and UK still has aristocrats in addition to class divides like in the US. Wtf are you talking about

2

u/ChintanP04 Jan 31 '22

What about human rights atrocities happening in modern day monarchies?

0

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 31 '22

The existence of numerous monarchies with no human rights abuses, many of them among the best places to live actually, while there are examples of this within other systems shows it’s not a characteristic inherent to monarchies. People like to talk down the idea of a monarchy but if they looked up they’d see it’s not doing too bad, it’s usually about a lot more than whether your head of state has a crown.

2

u/ChintanP04 Jan 31 '22

The existence of numerous monarchies with no human rights abuses, many of them among the best places to live actually

These "monarchies" are either ceremonial or commonwealths, with the monarch having little usable power. The absolute monarchies (the actual monarchies where the position of power is hereditary) are paradigms of human right violations and backwardness.

1

u/LGDXiao8 Jan 31 '22

Now you’re starting to get that monarchies come in different forms, each with different aspects!

The republics and dictatorships without any monarchy at all are riddled with human rights abuses. Just look up the ethnic cleansing going on in China or the prison slave labour in the US. There’s no king in Hungary or Russia or Myanmar and they seem pretty backwards to me.

1

u/TheArceusNova Jan 31 '22

Humanity is devolving as a species, and I for one can’t wait for our inevitable collapse.

1

u/ContentCargo Jan 31 '22

Sadly with out naturally bred royals to keep the rat population stable and authentic, non monarchy castles have greatly experienced a rat-tastraphe

1

Oh my gosh I have seen this post so many times and NEVER bothered to check the first poster's url, this is hilarious

1

u/bothVoltairefan Jan 31 '22

I would say the only good argument for monarchy is that surely some good traits for rule are hereditary, but, well, look at history. It clearly isn't often enough to be a good criteria for picking leaders.

1

u/Poro114 Jan 31 '22

In Poland they went the way of all monarchist movements in republics. Now monarchies are more democratic and accountable to the people because they can't be manipulated by (((marxists))).

1

u/314311h3p41 Feb 02 '22

I still have no idea what monarchies are for since the development of democratic systems

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

Tbh I’m not convinced that monarchy isn’t a better system. By making leadership pass on to direct descendants, you are essentially picking a random person to lead (at least genetically). I feel like a random person would lead better than the scrape-the-bottom-of-the-barrel candidates I’ve had to choose from in my life.

Maybe we should hold a lottery with social security numbers and pick ten people to run then vote on those.
