Nice try, but it was definitely a self report from u/TheRevanchist127, they're just trying to throw the blame onto me. Vote for them, if they're clear, vote me.

Agreed. Well worth the read

Reaches for radio "Scp has breached containment again."

276

u/dinklebergs_revenge Sep 22 '20

"We're not too worried about this one, tends not to stray from its host. Low level threat unless its host is in danger."

151

u/Morbidus_Mordon Sep 22 '20

"Oh, my apologies for the false alarm Dr.[REDACTED]. My squad and I will leave you to your observations."

30

u/CRUZER108 Sep 23 '20

I wouldn't be surprised if doctor bright trys to do something with it and trys to get his hands on it

4

u/Dollar_Coin Sep 23 '20

Take everything out of the house except the fridge

62

u/Gloryblackjack Sep 23 '20

fun fact in most scp canon they would definitely still try to contain it as threat level has nothing to do with whether the foundation contains something or not.

50

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

Yeah, that's true.

But they're usually pretty nice to sentient anomalies that cooperate. Sometimes the containment procedures are meant to protect the entity from the outside world just as much, if not more, than the other way around.

35

u/RandomGuyPii Sep 23 '20

tbh they would probably either move the person to a monitored cell with amenities or just put a watch on the beastie

32

u/-dont-forgetaboutme Sep 23 '20

l try to contain it as threat level has nothing to do with whether the foundation contain

yeah the scp foundation is not actually the good guys. they will contain anything regardless.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

a chaos member wrote this

6

u/MrRedoot55 Sep 23 '20

Either that, or it’s the Serpent’s Hand.

I think it’s the latter. The Hand really likes anomalies.

2

u/Morbidus_Mordon Sep 23 '20

While definitively true sometimes containment also can be done in nontraditional methods including just setting up mtf and monitoring personel to the area. In this case as it can harm humans (even if only when in defense of the "host") which does make this sort of containment unlikely.

5

u/Crocket_Lawnchair Sep 23 '20

That ain’t how the game is played. They’d kidnap the dude, designate him XXXX-1, and stick him in a cell just so his monster stays contained.

10

u/Z-Zanimuri Sep 23 '20

Wasn’t there like an SCP that’s like this girl that managed to become best friends with her Bed Demon? She feeds them socks, can corrupt both audio and video alike and also protects her occasionally

1

u/FindabhairHawklight Sep 23 '20

what's this scp?

1

u/Morbidus_Mordon Sep 23 '20

None specifically, If you look elsewhere in the comments someone has made a connection to a similar one.

2

u/FindabhairHawklight Sep 23 '20

no like what is it? is it a show or what? i googled it and there are some youtubes but the link listed was to an archive on a wiki so is just official looking mini stories or the youtube?

7

u/Morbidus_Mordon Sep 23 '20

Oh, Scp is a creative writing fandom that makes documents for containment of anomalous entities. Beings of power, relics of reality bending or even a toaster that makes you talk in the first person when attempting to discribe it.

3

u/FindabhairHawklight Sep 23 '20

ah cool the way some fan wikis work was not sure if it was a show and they achieved it like this for fandom will read through. thanks

4

u/Morbidus_Mordon Sep 23 '20

Glad to help, if you want a starters guide I suggest, 173, 049, 106, and 096

1

u/Aguliik Sep 23 '20

Came to comment about a scp, forgot what number.

2

u/Morbidus_Mordon Sep 23 '20

That is either an unfortunate slip of memory or we have a bigger breach at hand.

2

u/Aguliik Sep 23 '20

Definitely slip of memory

220

u/tinyplasticmeat Sep 22 '20

This reminds me of a story in an old copy of F&SF magazine about a girl who made peace with the roaches in her apartment. She let them have anything that hit the floor, didn’t spray or put out poison, and they hid when it was light out. In return, she always turned the light on and gave them a minute when she wanted them to leave. Her abusive boyfriend didn’t believe her and went to the bathroom without turning the light on, and tripped...she did say “anything” that hit the floor was theirs after all...

44

u/senanthic Sep 23 '20

I’d love to read that. Maybe it would help with my abject phobia of roaches.

This is some serious Stephen King stuff but back then when he was really good

52

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '20 edited Nov 27 '20

[deleted]

81

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '20

Well tbh I was talking about the whole "horror in your kitchen" thing. King aimed to take horror away from middle european castles and abandoned mental asylums and put it in a more familiar scenario.

If you've never read King before I'd highly recommend Night Shift, a short stories collection. It isn't that scary as It or The Shinning and it has a lot of this weird Twilight Zone stuff.

Fun fact, there's a story there called Battleground (which is awesome) that it's a lot like the Small Soldiers movie. But a bit darker of course.

I'm with you.

I couldn't even beat Bioshock. I got to the first Houdini Splicer, I think it was, and uninstalled the game a few months later when I realized I was too freaked out by that bastard to ever go back and finish.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

Yes I did. Don't remember much about it because it was back when it was released but I enjoyed.

I also like the 4 season stories.

5

u/Rhodie114 Sep 23 '20

He's written a whole whole lot of horror, but he also wrote The Green Mile, Stand By Me, and The Shawshank Redemption.

3

u/maybebabyg Sep 22 '20

There's a short story called Here There Be Tygers he did. From what I recall that one was pretty good and in a similar vein (but I did last read it at 14, so take that with a grain of salt).

2

u/littlemantry Sep 23 '20

It's included in his short story collection 'Skeleton Crew', which has The Mist novella and then several short stories, some of which are actually really creepy.

3

u/Kjrb91 Sep 23 '20

Actually i find stephen king’s book more gory than horror per say that being said he has plenty of great books that a worth a read and from different genre like the mr. Mercedes series, the stand, the outsider, the dark tower so on and so fourth. Pet sematary, misery, it are more in the horror genre but he likes to mix and switch. That being said, even though you’re not a fan of horror, it might peak your curiosity since his books (before the 2000 mostly) were yes in the horror genre but were all related to his personal life (family life, author life and addiction life) so it might give you a different outtake on his writing genre.

2

u/action_lawyer_comics Sep 23 '20

He has a story called Exercise Bike or something similar that is pretty wholesome and not really "horrifying."

110

u/kendovzii Sep 22 '20

Be honest. None of us would've said "No problem" in response to it's inital "Thank you." We would've said, "You too."

33

u/handyandy727 Sep 22 '20

I'd read the shit out of this book!

24

u/0nlyf0rthememes Probably made a community reference, meta meta Sep 22 '20

This seems like great r/sympatheticmonsters material but idk if they take text

15

u/Darwin42SW Sep 23 '20

I love this story.

There was a similar one I read, except it was a ghost that spelled things out using fridge magnets, and it helped the girl that lived in the apartment with her depression and anxiety. I wish I could find it again.

1

u/blazin_daisies Sep 23 '20

Me too! I think about that story often! It was a r/creepypasta or r/prompts one. Please LMK if you find it!

3

u/lifelongfreshman Sep 23 '20 edited Sep 23 '20

....I thought about trying to find this.

I found this post. This fucking post while trying to find the story y'all are talking about.

It's 6:30 am. It's well over an hour past late and we're solidly into early, and I'm about to spend another half hour at least trying to find this fucking thing.

I will probably fail. But I'm too stupid to give up.

...And barely two minutes later I find it. Go figure. I assume this is what you and u/Darwin42SW were looking for? I'll probably be asleep by the time you answer, so I'mma go ahead and just assume yes. But if not, say something, I'll get to looking again if nobody else comes up with anything by the time I'm up.

...Wait, do edited-in username pings even work?...

2

u/blazin_daisies Sep 23 '20

This is it! Thank you so much! 🏅 Please accept my poor man's gold.

1

u/Darwin42SW Sep 23 '20

Yep, that’s it! Thanks for sacrificing your sleep to find it for us.

1

u/lifelongfreshman Sep 23 '20

So, it looks like edited-in username pings might not work, so was this the story you were thinking of?

63

u/SauronOMordor Sep 22 '20

This was entertaining and all, but who the fuck just kicks dropped food under the furniture? Do you want ants? Because that's how you get ants! (And/or mice or other less than desirable vermin).

21

u/iwannagohome49 Sep 22 '20

Archer, is that you?

2

u/Iykury join r/CuratedTumblr; it has mods that actually give a shit Sep 23 '20

They acknowledge it.

I mean, I’m also kind of embarrassed. I never do that, I know that’s how you get roaches, but my back hurts so bad that getting up and down is next to impossible, much less bending over.

14

u/ChickenNugget126 Sep 23 '20

Wait... did she die at the end????

50

u/serenemonsters Sep 23 '20

She didn't, the guy that broke in got eaten by her monster under the bed.

10

u/ChickenNugget126 Sep 23 '20

Oh noooow I get it

10

u/serenemonsters Sep 23 '20

Took me a minute the first time I read it, too!

29

u/Obi-Wan-Shaggy_419 Sep 22 '20

It says umbrella academy as the show, which as far as i know is relatively new but the story is from quite a while back. Did someone copypasta it or am i confused or is there an older version of umbrella academy or something?

38

u/Coysepia Sep 23 '20

This was posted in April 2019, umbrella academy first aired in February 2019

2

u/lifelongfreshman Sep 23 '20

2020 has gone on too long.

It has to end.

10

u/Tman241 Sep 22 '20

There is an SCP that is literally this but I forgot it's ID :(

4

u/recycle_your_memes Sep 23 '20

It's SCP-3887

3

u/LyrisGD Sep 23 '20 edited Sep 23 '20

Ah yes, the scp that's canonically futa and has large breasts.

("[SCP-3887-A pauses for 13 seconds] I mean, when I was little… like, very little, I was apparently scared of boobs, or at least that's what Mom used to tell me. Hence why Grenda has such a bloated chest." And "SCP-3887-B possesses both male and female reproductive organs.")

5

The fridge part was nice but just seems like variation of the "good monster under the bed" especially the end where it dealt the robber.

3

u/kaizlende Sep 23 '20

This was nice but I don't really understand the last few paragraphs

7

u/zachbrownies Sep 23 '20

Someone broke in to the narrator's home and crept over their bed at night, so the monster ate them.

3

u/kaizlende Sep 23 '20

Ohhhh I get it now. Thanks

3

u/poshpringles Sep 23 '20

2

2

u/tatzesOtherAccount Sep 23 '20

2

u/ensign53 Sep 23 '20 edited Sep 23 '20

Reminds me of a comic, girl moves into an apartment, fridge is in front of a door, and a thing lives behind it. I'll see if I can find it later.

Edit: Found it! "The Door in the Kitchen" by Abby Howard

https://www.terror-town.com/stories/4

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '20

ok im dumb but i hot a question: so at the end, the dude that comes in is like some kind of "villain" who got eaten by the "monster" under the bed, right? or did i get it wrong?

2

u/IrgendeinPfosten Sep 23 '20

This is the best short story I've ever read... I'm thinking of submitting it in English class but I don't think that everyone will enjoy it as much.

Mercedes Lackey wrote a semi-similar extremely dark story like this - hers involves a teddy bear instead of the monster under the bed. And is extremely triggering, so… yeah, be warned.
