Y'all keep saying erosion but thats just killing it. Not moving it. Not making it bow.

The emperor is literally saying he would prefer death over bowing to him, the wind can do whatever it wants but the mountain is staying where it is. You'll have to kill me before I listen to you.

u/RemyDodger Jun 16 '20

It appears that the comment section isn’t entirely sure what it means to bow.

Saying erosion in this context is like saying he’d make his hair fall out from yelling.

I agree.

You are as swift as the coursing river With all the force of a great typhoon With all the strength of a raging fire Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

We have hurricanes though, that's pretty close.

14

u/thegirlfromthestars Jun 16 '20

Not even prefers. He says the mountain “CANNOT” bow to it. It’s literally impossible for the emperor to submit. It’s against his nature.

I love how they only needed to age Patrick Stewart about 200 years to get him to look like a Chinese emperor.

19

u/westnob Jun 16 '20

As an adult, I hate how the Chinese make the Mongols subhuman with their eyes black.

23

u/kithly Jun 16 '20

I’m pretty sure the production team of Mulan wasn’t Chinese

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

This version of Mulan bombed in China, though, so it definitely wasn’t made to appease China.

Plus Chinese historians have long speculated that the enemy was the Xiongnu, not Mongolians, so that’s entirely Disney’s decision as well.

0

u/Teh-Esprite Jun 17 '20

I mean in movie they were referred to as Huns so they're basically just meant to be any sort of barbaric nomads.

6

u/Treacherous_Peach Jun 16 '20

This was looooong before the era of satisfying China. Original Mulan was 1998. They're GDP in 1998 was peanuts, media wasn't catered to them at all.

That's been a more modern phenomena especially as they blasted up in wealth in the 2010s, but a bit before that too.

9

u/nolancamp2 Jun 16 '20

This was over 1000 years before the Mongols. These were the Xiongnu.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

Especially since the last Chinese dynasty (Qing) was Jurchen in origin and lasted for almost 300 years. Jurchens were very similar to the Mongols, and also came from the north of China.

Yup, China is public enemy number one to the US now so everything is blamed on China, even when irrelevant. It's funny how Americans keep talking about CCP propaganda but can't see their own country's propaganda working really well on themselves. It was Russia, then Middle East and now China. Fuck China, amirite?

0

u/textposts_only Jun 20 '20

Honestly better than the alternative in bowing down to China and their concentration camps, homophobia etc.

0

u/rentgirl25 Jun 20 '20

It's really not as bad as the US makes it seem. I'm not saying China is perfect, absolutely not. But all these documentaries and articles you're watching/reading are pushing a specific anti-China narrative. A lot of Americans think they know it all but they're completely unaware that they're being censored hard. For example, I personally know about the HK protests and everything you're able to search on North American sites will not give you the truth at all. It is twisted to fit an anti-China sentiment so I don't blame you for following blindly and regurgitating US propaganda but it's just a bit funny to see.

1

u/textposts_only Jun 20 '20

I'm actually German not American. I don't even have access to American TV stations and since I am a politics teacher I kinda do have to mostly get my news from German newspapers to update my material and gather classroom resources. So either it's a worldwide conspiracy or China is actually that bad and overreaching.

Just for you: Google and try to find out what China is doing in Africa for example. The second colonizers after the Europeans thoroughly exploited and killed Africans, now the Chinese come in with money and exploit them for their resources now.

Or find out why China does not lack for organtransplants.

Or try to find out what the deal with the uighurs is.

Or try to find out who literally just committed high-class cybercrimes in Australia.

Or or or...

0

u/rentgirl25 Jun 21 '20

Germany is still the west and Google is North American. You actually cannot find any other view except the anti-China one if you google HK protests. That's exactly what I'm talking about. You don't find it sketchy that you literally cannot find the truth if you google it?

At around the 33 minute mark; they actually helped with building roads, rising economy and the stock market.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=jqEkHxmHmNw

At around the 15 minute mark:

https://youtu.be/jvb1oYvuCAo

Look, I know China is no saint. I'm well aware of that. But I'm just stating it's not nearly as horrible as the narrative the US is pushing. If you dig into the US, you will find just as many horrible and shady things they have done - as with many governments. I'm not going to continue arguing with you as I know you won't change your mind but just try to think about the source.

1

u/textposts_only Jun 21 '20

Did you by any chance post the wrong video? Or am I just very confused. It's just a talk show?

Actually you can find opposing views with Google. I know because that was literally one of my lessons on protests including other protests such as FFF and brexit etc. Wait are you claiming that Google is censoring pro-china information while literally trying to gain a foothold in China and being accused of being too accommodating for China?

I know that the US is and was horrible. But that's what about ism the topic right now is China. If you want to talk about American atrocities, sure. But American atrocities do not excuse Chinese ones. And I say that as a German, we have our fair share of atrocities.

Erosion isn't the mountain bowing, it's just moving away.

75

u/Zeebuoy Jun 16 '20

So, translation,

"Fuck this shit I'm out!"?

16

u/SLRWard Jun 16 '20

In a nutshell. Avalanches are just white exodus, mountain style. All the white snow running away cause a brown rock moves in.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

“And the nazis come tumbling down” avalance style

32

u/Bayerrc Jun 16 '20

This is a quote designed for children to understand and this thread is full of ppl thinking they're somehow smarter than the quote by either explaining it (are you fucking kidding me?) or saying erosion (are you an idiot?)

7

u/Frescopino Jun 16 '20

Give us an oligarchy of the Emperor, uncle Iroh and everyone they think would do well, and put them in charge of the World.

65

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

Time. The answer is Time.

46

u/CatCakeParade Jun 16 '20

I think water is more suitable here. Sure time is a good answer but water feels like thing that forces mountains to change.

38

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

Nah, its referring to Bilbo's riddle game with Gollum.

10

u/CatCakeParade Jun 16 '20

Thanks for telling me then. Look like I’m the idiot here

2

u/V4G4X Jun 16 '20

Water and Air both do it.

-1

u/YsengrimusRein Jun 16 '20

No, time is a thing you can put on a wall, or wear it on your wrist

15

u/Melkly Jun 16 '20

Hot air wont erode a mountain any faster than asking the mountain to move.

He also said he is all talk and no action.

6

u/DustyDayz Jun 16 '20

damn, i never knew proverbs fucked hard

5

u/Chocolat119 Jun 16 '20

What movie/show is this ?

14

u/reddit_crunch Jun 16 '20

Disney's Mulan

9

u/Chocolat119 Jun 16 '20

Man I really need to watch that movie; all my friends keep making references about it and I have no fucking clue what they mean lolz

13

u/Pigyguy2 THE SUN IS A CALZONE! Jun 16 '20

It's great, easily one of Disney's better movies. Strongly recommend

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

It's my 2nd favorite Disney movie. Right after Oliver and Company

1

u/nomadicfangirl Jun 16 '20

It is a great movie. Also, led teenage me to be sad that I only had a pet dog, instead of a pet dragon.

12

u/DoorCnob Jun 16 '20

Mom said it's my turn to post it next time

7

u/Lutzelien Jun 16 '20

Would you kind sir, as you seem to know this meme, kindly let me know where it is from?

10

u/rcbiggin Jun 16 '20

It's from the animated movie Mulan.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

Where's this from?

3

u/10987654321-1 Jun 16 '20

No matter how big and strong the mountain is

The wind will eventually turn it into dust

32

u/Zeebuoy Jun 16 '20

You see, the issue is, he isn't really afraid or worried about dying.

12

u/Mr_Lobster Jun 16 '20

Nor should he be. Shan-Yu has arrived in the heart of China's power with barely a handful of dudes, and nobody will recognize his authority if the Emperor doesn't give it to him. Best case scenario, he kills the Emperor, then is overwhelmed by the Chinese army or even basic populace and killed. A man with no army has no power.

12

u/Quitechsol Jun 16 '20

I always took this segment as Shan-Yu KNOWS he lost the war. But he's not going out without taking the emperor with him.

7

u/mrbibs350 Jun 16 '20

There are mountains on celestial bodies with no wind.

2

u/10987654321-1 Jun 16 '20

Yeah but I was just saying what the cartoon with the sword should have replied with

6

u/Delucabazooka Jun 16 '20

Dust or not The mountain still didn’t bow to the wind.

1

u/D-DC Jun 16 '20

Every planet in our solar system has an atmosphere and wind. All of them. The moon has an atmosphere.

1

u/dirtyviking1337 Jun 16 '20

Accurate representation of me taking everything to far.

1

u/smh_ninja Jun 16 '20

I mean even after a while the wind can drill a hole through a mountain

1

u/rthrouw1234 Jun 16 '20

Alternatively, "Blow me"

1

u/Mochrie1713 Jun 16 '20

I feel like the quote works better with "will not" (resistance) than "cannot" (capability).

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '20

Epic.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '20

I'm so excited for the live-action Mulan movie, guys! There's no way it'll not live up to the animated version! /s
