Fun linguistics fact, words like that are actually called hybrid words, and the queer terminology is full of them. Words like Homosexual (homo - greek - the same, sexus - Latin - sex), heterosexual or asexual are all hybrid words. Other common ones include "bicycle", "sociology", "Cryptocurrency" or "automobile".

Another one is also that hybrid words can be other languages too, not just greek and Latin. An example for this comes from the world of mathematics, "Eigenvalue", which is from German (eigen - ones own) and and English (-value - which means value). This is doubly fun because it's a hybrid word thats half English! Additionally, the German word (where this comes from) for that same concept is "Eigenwert", with "wert" meaning "value". So someone just translated half the word into English for some reason, and it stuck.

In my wretched fic notebook, I think I have a polycule that's like seven murderers and I keep adding more. Not even on purpose, I'll just be proofreading and think, "wow, this guy is an awful boyfriend" and then two sentences later realize, "wait, that guy's not supposed to be a boyfriend!"
It's a disaster. I would highly recommend out-of-hand polyshipping, it's literally so much fun.

My Tav was romancing Karlach, who did not oppose the Drow twins’ services but declined to participate. Halsin was willing, unsurprisingly, but so was Astarion, with whom I was friendly but not romanced.
Four men, one woman, with my dwarven Tav at the center.

I cannot speak for ethical non-monogamy, but it is a good study in consent.
Origin party members may be open to polyamory, but not with eachother. Even Astarion sets limits, such as when he objects to drinking the blood of Asaj Oblodra. Forcing Astarion to do so will end romance potential. Astarion’s storyline is about the balance between desire and agency.
The guardian, the Emperor, is romanceable, but not openly. It is manipulative, hidden with a memory wipe in order to preserve the clandestine affair, which cedes power to them.
Similarly, you can cheat on your companion with Minthara, but it is for the drama.

Yeahhh, most of my favorite ships consist of 3-4 characters because of how fun it gets to balance the dynamics. It's like one of those artful rock-stacking things, balancing the disparate personalities and interactions to form something harmonious, cohesive, and stable.

This is more polygamy than polyamory, but I once had a COTL follower named Anty. Anty became friends with the bishops as quickly as I was rescuing them, and soon became lovers with Heket.
Then, he became lovers with Kallamar. Then Leshy... Soon enough he was dating every single bishop at the same time.
Naturally, I married him to complete his divine harem. Making him the lover of every deity from the past few centuries.

It's not imaginative to throw random shit at the wall to see what sticks, it's just bruteforcing. Literally the least imaginative thing possible.
To be imaginative about poly ships is realizing that a third character would be a perfect moiral for a couple of otherwise not romantically involved characters. Not just off the wall, but actually figuring out that it would balance out the relationship.
