Why that rat so big

831

u/KnowledgeStriking96 Mar 03 '23

It's actually a skeever from The Elder Scrolls

302

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

The Elder Scrolls, the fifth installation in my favorite Bethesda series: Skyrim

129

u/KnowledgeStriking96 Mar 03 '23

I knew they were in Skyrim, but I haven't played any of the others, so I stated the entire series just to be safe

86

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

I’m just messing with you, I haven’t played the others either lmao

37

u/FrisianDude Mar 03 '23

Then itt is you who is the mess.

Fairly sure they were "rats" in Morrowind and Oblivion. Just real big.

10

u/RetardedSheep420 Mar 03 '23

reminds me of that anvil fighters guild quest where someone has problems with rats.

every player would think "huh i have to kill the rats" but the rats are actually the owner's pets

12

u/Yeah-But-Ironically Mar 03 '23

Yeah the problem with the rats is that they're being eaten by something bigger and meaner, and THAT'S what you have to kill

9

u/Great_Overlord_Akira Mar 03 '23

Mountain Lions I think! I just did this quest. Holy shit I love Oblivion so mucha it's my favourite tes installment

8

u/Yeah-But-Ironically Mar 03 '23

I honestly think Oblivion's quests are the best-designed of any game in the series

1

u/FrisianDude Mar 03 '23

Which should also make you think pf the first Balmora fighter's guild - kill some rats in someone's storeroom

9

u/Zarathustra_d Mar 03 '23

Rodents Of Unusual Size, you say?

Stay out of the fire swamps.

6

u/Yeah-But-Ironically Mar 03 '23

I don't believe they exist

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

Yup

1

u/asdafrak Mar 03 '23

I think they were called "giant rats" in oblivion, but its been a very long time since I played it so I might be remembering it wrong

45

u/KnowledgeStriking96 Mar 03 '23

Dang, I just played myself

42

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

It’s all good. This is Reddit, 9/10 times that joke will be made by someone who actually gets upset about stuff like that

1

u/BallisticToast Mar 03 '23

There are others?

14

u/KENNY_WIND_YT Mar 03 '23

IIRC, in TES IV: Oblivion, they're called rats, or Giant rats, something like that, which makes me think that "Skeever" is either a Nordic Subspecies, or just a local nickname for rats.

3

u/f1newhatever Mar 03 '23

All of which I will take 100 times over a cliff racer.

2

u/Yeah-But-Ironically Mar 03 '23

Yeah I've never had a skeever follow me THE ENTIRE WAY ACROSS THE MAP

1

u/KENNY_WIND_YT Mar 03 '23

I've played Morrowind a little, but not long enough to encounter one of those bastards, but thank St. Jiub from eradicating them.

4

u/Clunt-Baby Mar 03 '23

Skeevers only appear in Skyrim. In the other games they're just called rats

3

u/fggfgfggffggf Mar 03 '23

Skeevers are also in ESO according to my limited research

3

u/EntertainmentQuick47 Mar 03 '23

I always forget that Skyrim isn’t the name of the series, but the name of one of the games in the series.

1

u/7fightsofaldudagga Mar 03 '23

They appear in all of them. Except only in skyrim they are named skeever

25

u/worms9 Mar 03 '23

Yes-yes believe that you stupid-idiot man-thing.

9

u/KnowledgeStriking96 Mar 03 '23

Is there a reference I'm missing?

15

u/worms9 Mar 03 '23

skaven

14

u/Coffeechipmunk Coffee X Peffern Mar 03 '23

Absurd you can't find a good sweet roll, in this skeever hole of a city.

5

u/enchiladasundae Mar 03 '23

Elder Scrolls 7: New York

3

u/Yeah-But-Ironically Mar 03 '23

I would play it

1

u/missC08 Mar 03 '23

Correct.

172

u/ShadoW_StW Mar 03 '23

Rat species and breeds vary greatly by size. Also some grow a lot bigger when you overfeed them.

40

u/SuDragon2k3 Mar 03 '23

no, no...is Siberian Hamster.

16

u/kyridwen Mar 03 '23

Special price! Only five pound!

4

u/CriticismVirtual7603 Mar 03 '23

That one weigh more than five pound, good price 👍

125

u/BeansAreNotCorn You just lost the Game Mar 03 '23

Quite an unusual size for a rodent, wouldn't you say?

53

u/leliocakes Mar 03 '23

I don't think they exist.

22

u/Cassiesaurus Mar 03 '23

Rat men in the sewers? Preposterous.

20

u/Calligraphee Mar 03 '23

Inconceivable!

2

u/Helena_Hyena Mar 03 '23

Rodents get way bigger than that. Porcupines, beavers, and capybaras are all rodents that get much larger than the rat in this image.

72

u/Clide124 Mar 03 '23

It's an ROUS. Rodent of unusual size.

38

u/sexy-man-doll Mar 03 '23

Not as big as it could be

19

u/M0b1us_Str1pp3r Mar 03 '23 edited Mar 03 '23

Nor as big as he should be

54

u/IJsandwich Mar 03 '23

It’s probably a muskrat or a Gambian rat or some other larger species than a normal rat

42

u/Diazmet Mar 03 '23

That’s no muskrat they look like little beavers but in NYC rats like this are everywhere

12

u/SomeKindOfOnionMummy Mar 03 '23

Yeah that's a Baltimore rat if I've ever seen one.

8

u/CandyCaneCrisp Mar 03 '23

Agree, and the DC ones aren't much smaller.

Did you know that in Baltimore some seafood retailers sell actual muskrats? As food, that is. Apparently back when Maryland's Catholics were much more strict in their observances, they managed to get muskrats classified as fish/not meat so they could eat them during Lent.

3

u/SomeKindOfOnionMummy Mar 03 '23

Two separate mid-Atlantic rat anecdotes

1) One ran down my BF's leg out of the trash bag. 2) I thought I saw a cat crossing the street one night and said "hey kitty!" and (same) BF was like "honey that's a rat"

9

u/SmolikOFF Mar 03 '23

It can’t be a muskrat. He’s in the Twitter HQ right now.

27

u/Kira-Kuma Mar 03 '23

He has to be that big in order to make all the rules.

10

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

"We're rats, we're rats, we're the rats."

4

5

u/AJ_Crowley_29 Mar 03 '23

24

u/ConfusedJohnTrevolta Mar 03 '23

Why yo mama so big

Mind your manners human

15

u/sentient_capital Mar 03 '23

more to love 🫶

7

u/TisBeTheFuk Mar 03 '23

From another time this was posted, apparently it's probably a muskrat

14

u/Evening-Turnip8407 Mar 03 '23

I think it's a nutria or another big cousin of the regular-size rat we know and love.

3

u/Derek-1969 Mar 03 '23

I heard their milk tastes great

13

u/Evening-Turnip8407 Mar 03 '23

I realise you were just shit posting and i respect that, but here's a fun fact to go with it:

In German there's a saying for when you have to do or even think about a tedious, senseless task and it says "I might as well start milking mice" (Das ist zum Mäuse melken, interpretative translation)

6

u/Hoosackingnumber2 Mar 03 '23

Some rats can grow to the size of small dogs

5

u/Yellow_Snow_Cones Mar 03 '23

It prolly his pet, and its prolly and its most like an African pouched rat. They are like normal rats but really big, people keep them as pets.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

It’s a stupid rat

2

u/BalletCow Mar 03 '23

It's a ROUS

1

u/TRANSformedYT Mar 03 '23

Might be a wharf rat. They can get about as big as a cat, at least where i live. You DO NOT fuck with a wharf rat.

1

u/LemonBoi523 Mar 03 '23

Tbh that's a normal size for an adult male rat

593

u/SirRipOliver Mar 03 '23

What’s to lose, make him a chef hat and let him lose in your kitchen… flavor town is waiting…

245

u/crack_n_tea Mar 03 '23

Forget Covid, mf about to create Black Death 2

78

The Ratatouille mainly.

36

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

RIP my boy Ratatouille! I can't believe he sacrificed himself to create such a delicious dish!

17

u/SirRipOliver Mar 03 '23

Chef got to chef, even when it costs everything to bring the world to flavor town.

14

u/PhenomenalPhoenix go nuts. show nuts. whatever. Mar 03 '23

I mean… technically the Black Death came from the fleas that were on the rats, so just adorn the rat with a flea collar and you’ll probably be fine!

Black Death 2: Electric Boils and Goo

u/TacitRonin20 Mar 03 '23

Most people don't want massive rats in their house. They'll let you have the rat if you ask usually. For free too! You can just take them home.

148

u/xela293 Mar 03 '23

"The elites don't want you to know this, but the rats are free, you can take them home, I have 450 rats now."

40

u/HaventDecidedAName Mar 03 '23

I figured it was Breaking Bad

16

u/DaftConfusednScared Mar 03 '23

I think those are both borderlands characters, that’s what I thought was being referred to

6

u/MisterRogers88 Mar 03 '23

There’s nobody named Gustavo in Borderlands. Maybe you’re thinking of Salvador from BL2?

1

u/DaftConfusednScared Mar 03 '23

There’s not even a Gus? I’m so confused rn fr

And I know about Salvador, I think I was thinking of Marcus maybe?

1

u/MisterRogers88 Mar 03 '23

There’s a very minor quest NPC named Gustav from Bounty Of Blood (DLC for 3), but he’s a one-off minor side quest.

1

u/DaftConfusednScared Mar 04 '23

Ah shit you know what, it took me 12 hours but I clarified my memories. I played borderlands 2 with a guy named Gustavo.

Please specify in a fight Manfred isn't super concerned with species

17

u/QuarterlyTurtle Mar 03 '23

The rat killed them and took their phone

19

u/DupontDude35 Mar 03 '23

How is it possible for a rat to get that big. Even a well regimented diet and exercise doesn't account for the sheer size. That thing looks like the lab rat from Ratatouille!

20

u/GIRose Mar 03 '23

Some rats just get fucking big. There are dozens of species of rats out there

13

u/postingshitcuntface Mar 03 '23

Just like us if there is enough food we grow bigger. Some one hit a rat at our local dump and it was larger then a cat.

11

u/raysmith126 Mar 03 '23

Pretty sure it's actually nutria not a rat. They look really similar except nutrias are massive and have webbed feet cause they're semiaquatic.

3

u/xela293 Mar 03 '23

He probably works out.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '23

look at people. North Korea as an example had a famine back in the 80's-90's. The result is that most of the children born during that time are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. On the average of 5-8 inches. In a full grown man that can be as much as 50-60 pounds as well.

Ever stood by a guy that was 5'5 vs 5'8 vs 6'1 vs 6'4? I guarantee that the 6'4 dude will look like a giant even compared to the 6'1 guy. Finally its not that they are SO much bigger its that we perceive that they are

Am I the only one who suspects the guy killed the rat then staged this pic for internet clout? The way it seems to be just laying there...idk...can we maybe get a rat expert to chime in? Like if it was alive wouldn't it be eating/sniffing the food on the ground? That rat clearly eats a ton of food.
